The place where we oversee the homework, enjoy our evening meals over discussions of what took place earlier in the day, catch-up over a cup of tea and much more.

Thankfully, there’s no one-size-fits-all rule when it comes to exploring the many different styles, material finishes, colours, layouts and decorating ideas to inspire your new kitchen project.

Welcome to your new kitchen.

1. Give it some colour

Brighten up your space with a unique Carnivale design. Keeping a certain rustic look to your kitchen, as well as adding a splash of colour that’s also not too over-the-top. When you’ve gone with neutral tones, it’s the perfect compliment.

2. Splash out on tiles

Add an ethnic flavour to your splashback with different colours and retro-inspired tiles. Add some Shaker-style cabinetry and open shelves, the space is a pleasure to be in.

3. Go low-rise

Forgo upper cabinets to prevent the space looking like a conventional kitchen. Then opt for a splashback of Moroccan-style tiles. Available in different patterns, the undulating surface with present a rough contrast to the smooth lines of the units, while referencing other added colours in the room.

4. On your metal

Instead of using a glass or tile splashback, why not consider copper metal sheeting. With its high-shine and reflective finish or scratched and tarnished with an antique patina, you can have it cut to size for an attractive no-join appearance.

5. Back to nature

Wooden planks are for the floor, you say? Why not try out a reclaimed wood tile on your kitchen wall. It will create an instantly eye-catching display for your splashback – and the designs are pretty much endless, not to mention the character it will add to the room.
