My Reno Rules might look like a normal renovation show, but there’s a twist. Now airing on Channel 7, the contestants compete for a cash prize, and viewers also have a chance to win one of the fully renovated houses, each worth an estimated $ 2.5 M.
If you don’t want the house, you can opt for a $2 million cash alternative instead. Here’s everything you need to know to get into the draw before the June 2 finale.

What is My Reno Rules?
My Reno Rules is a renovation show on Channel 7, hosted by Chris Brown. Four teams of everyday Aussies compete to renovate the two properties. At the end, both houses are given away on live TV.
The man behind the idea is Adrian Portelli, Melbourne-based billionaire entrepreneur and property investor. Best known as “Mr Lambo” for his high-profile buying sprees on The Block. Portelli decided to give the houses away to viewers rather than sell them at auction.
Speaking to 7News, Adrian said: “On previous reno shows, they might do auctions and, unfortunately, only 1 per cent of the viewing audience have the capacity to buy those homes. So, it’s an awesome feeling to be able to take the viewers on an emotional journey”
Additionally, the renovation teams compete for a $100,000 cash prize.
The prize comparison: house vs. cash
If your name is called on June 2, you have a life-changing decision to make. Here is the breakdown of the two prizes.
| Option 1: The Bulleen house. | Option 2: $2,000,000 cash alternative. |
| Asset value: Estimated at $2.5M+ each. | Asset value: $2,000,000 flat. |
| The vibe: A 1970s gem transformed into a designer sanctuary by Neale Whitaker, Simon Cohen, and Julia Green. | The vibe: Financial boost. Pay off the mortgage, travel, or buy your own dream home elsewhere. |
| The fine print: Includes all fixed fixtures (ovens, HVAC). Note: Staging furniture and styling items may be removed before settlement. | The fine print: While often called “tax-free,” winners are urged to seek independent financial advice regarding the $2M windfall. |
The final warning (the 180-second rule)
Winners will be called live on air during the finale. You’ll have three minutes to answer. If you miss the call, the prize will be redrawn immediately. Once notified, you’ll then have 24 hours to decide whether you want the house or the $2 million cash alternative.

The houses
My Reno Rules was filmed at 54 and 56 Pinnacle Crescent in Bulleen, Victoria. The neighbouring red brick homes have undergone complete façade renovations, but the interiors are still under wraps. That said, we’re still waiting for the exterior reveal.
The toxic discovery: why production came to a halt
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Bulleen builds. During the pre-production phase, filming was abruptly halted after builders uncovered asbestos at both 54 and 56 Pinnacle Crescent.
This is common in 1970s homes, but the discovery caused a scramble behind the scenes. Producers brought in licensed specialists to strip the material and secure clearance certificates.
The Judges’ role
The homes aren’t just renovated, they’re designed and judged by three of Australia’s most respected names in property and interiors, which is a big part of what makes the prize so compelling.
- Neale Whitaker is one of Australia’s most recognisable style authorities, best known as a long-running judge on The Block and Love It or List It.
- Simon Cohen is one of Sydney’s most sought-after buyer’s agents, known from Luxe Listings Sydney and Dream Home.
- Julia Green, founder of Greenhouse Interiors, is a leading destination for boutique homewares, fine art and interior styling. Her expertise ensures the finishing touches are every bit as considered as the structural work.
The only question left to answer is which prize you would pick?
