We actually tested the 4-seater model and ottoman out in August 2024 and found it spacious, supportive and very comfortable.

BHG contributor Jessica G. Lynch put it through its paces and was left overly impressed. “It comfortably seats all your guests for pre-dinner drinks and there’s no stress about potential spillage with the removable cushion covers,” she concluded. “Movie nights are also spacious and no one is fighting over the ‘comfy spot’ when every spot is comfy and you can have three people with their feet up on the couch and ottoman without even touching each other.”

Four tips to choose the best sofa for your space

  1. Measure your space: This will give you a clear sense of how big or small a new sofa needs to be. If you’re replacing one, you could also use its dimensions as a quick guide for new ones.
  2. Choose what design features you want: Whether it’s a corner lounge, modular additions, luxurious material for the covering, a sofa bed or even storage, having a clear idea of the features that matter most means you can focus your search on sofas that fit the bill.
  3. Check the warranty and return details: A sofa can be a bit of an investment, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for trial periods and warranty coverage. Brands like Eva and Koala, for example, have long free return periods, and others may offer 1-, 5- or even 10-year warranty coverage on parts of the sofa.
  4. Decide how much you want to spend: Size, upholstery material and quality some of the factors that can affect a sofa’s price. So if you’re on a bit of a budget, you could consider choosing a smaller sofa, more simple design (ditching chaise and ottoman extras) or comparing fabric costs.
  5. Wait for a sale: If you don’t urgently need a new sofa, waiting for Black Friday deals or another sale is a great way to save on your upgrade. It’s also handy if you have your eye on a particular sofa but can’t really justify paying full price (yes, we’re speaking from experience).
What’s the difference between a sofa and a couch?

One big distinction between sofas and couches is that sofas have arms while couches traditionally do not – it’s that simple! Another obvious difference is their seating capacities. A couch is usually smaller, seating only two to three people, whereas a sofa can be capable of holding four or more guests.

Traditionally, sofas and couches also had different functions, with couches more for casual lounging and sofas designed for more formal, sitting affairs. But these days, the terms “sofa” and “couch” are often used interchangeably and come in all kinds of designs.

How do you tell if a sofa is good quality?

Top quality sofas should offer comfort and durability while also suiting the size and style of your space. Some of the factors that can help determine the quality of a sofa when you’re shopping for one, include the overall weight, frame/foundation, seat cushion foam, spring system and upholstery fabric. Other factors like the warranty period and delivery and return options can also help you determine the quality of the sofa.

It’s also worth reading through product reviews and doing research on the brand you’re purchasing from. This will give you an adequate overview of the quality so you can make sure you’re putting your money towards a quality sofas that will last years. And, when artfully accompanied by a coffee table within your home décor scheme, can become a focal point of a living room or office.

Which brand of sofa is best?

With thousands of sofa brands and retailers in Australia, shopping for the best one can be quite overwhelming. However, some of the most trusted and awarded include Koala, Ecosa, Eva, Castlery, Temple & Webster and Freedom.
