‘I had never fallen asleep on a sofa until I tried this one’

Is this Aussie-designed couch a nap game changer?
eva everyday sofa reviewJessica G Lynch

In my humble opinion, the sofa – aka the couch – is perhaps the most versatile furniture piece in the home. From everyday lounging to entertaining to movie nights to WFH (I know it’s poor form to work from the couch but whatever, sue me), the sofa plays host to many of life’s going-ons. That’s why it’s ideal to have a model boasting durability, comfort and quality.

So when I was offered to review the Everyday sofa by Melbourne brand Eva, I jumped at the chance to swap out our worn, lumpy couch and try out the aptly named Everyday sofa. As I live in a household of three – often four when partners stay over – I opted for the four-seater sofa with an ottoman.

Read on for our Eva Everyday sofa review and everything you need to know about the couch if you’re thinking of making the investment, yourself.

What’s so special about the Eva Everyday sofa?

  • Removable and washable covers mean that you don’t have to worry as much about drinking wine (or other notoriously staining food and drinks) and having pets on the sofa. It also means that theoretically, if you wanted to switch up the colour of your sofa down the track, you could opt for a new colourway.
  • There are over 100 modular configurations (including low and high arm, chaise, ottomans and singular modules) of the sofa, meaning you can really tailor the sofa to your space. I opted for the ottoman over a chaise, for example, as a chaise would be on the ‘wrong’ side of our living room and would block the entranceway.
  • A very supportive design in the foam cushions

Eva Everyday sofa materials and size

  • Multilayer foams in varying densities, strong timber frame (hardwood and plywood), soft and sturdy fabric made of 100 per cent polyester
  • Available in eight colourways: moss green, smoke grey, oatmeal, Atlantic, terracotta, olive, cream and graphite
  • Four-seater model: 280cm x 95cm x 72cm
  • Ottoman: 90cm x 90cm x 40cm
  • The sofa ranges from 2.5-seater to a six-seater L shape, and also comes in single modules

Results from our Eva sofa road test

Setting up the sofa was straightforward as it didn’t require a thorough reading of a 100-page manual or the possession of a fully-equipped tool belt to get the job done. What it did require was two-and-a-half to three hours of elbow grease between two reasonably fit (albeit somewhat weak-ish) young women. Getting the covers onto each piece of the sofa was sometimes a struggle but was honestly, very rewarding, and would much rather put covers on a couch than pick up the tools any day – and this assembly was tool-free. It was a satisfying upper-body workout and resting on the very comfy cushions afterwards was a sweet, sweet reward.

I’ve since put the sofa to the dinner party test and it passed with flying colours; it comfortably seats all your guests for pre-dinner drinks and there’s no stress about potential spillage with the removable cushion covers. Movie nights are also spacious and no one is fighting over the ‘comfy spot’ when every spot is comfy and you can have three people with their feet up on the couch and ottoman without even touching each other. WFC (Working From Couch) is made all the more comfortable and with the small throw cushions on hand, you’ve got great lumbar support.

But perhaps, the most significant development in my trialling of this sofa is that I – someone who has never fallen asleep on a couch – fell asleep on this one. It was just for 10 minutes late at night watching a movie but for someone who has sleep issues (as per my musings on sunrise alarm clocks and eye masks), this is BIG news.

So naturally, I would highly recommend the Eva Everyday if you’re looking to invest in a quality sofa that is as practical and comfortable as it is sleek.
