For those who have taken long-haul flights to international locations, or even those just like to get a bit of shut-eye on their domestic flights, we all know how hard it is to actually get any sort of quality sleep on a plane.
From the uncomfortable seats to the noise made by people, babies, the plane engines and the food trolley trundling up and down the aisle, we all know catching some sweet zz’s isn’t always possible.
However, there are ways you can maximise your sleep opportunities by picking a seat in the right spot.
According to two sleep professionals, the best place to get some sleep on a plane is by sitting in the window seat in the middle of the plane.
Sleep science coach and co-founder of Tuck, Bill Fish, told Business Insider that the window seat provides some stability for your neck to keep your spine aligned, and if the people in the middle or aisle seats need to get up, you won’t be disturbed.
Founder and CEO of Canadian company Nanak Flights, Rishi Kapoor, further confirmed the theory. He told Business Insider that if you sit right in the middle of the plane you won’t be as disturbed by the foot traffic headed to the bathroom, or the bathroom noises. By sitting in the middle of the plane you will also avid hearing the flight attendants going back and forth at the front of the plane.
So, there it is. If you’re looking to catch some well-earned rest, book ahead and pay for the seat selection so you get a prime seat for sleep.
