If you’ve ever cut your hand slicing an avocado, this piece of news is for you: seedless avocados are now a thing.

British retailer Marks & Spencer has started selling cocktail avocados, which are smaller version of the popular fruit, minus the seed – and you can even eat the skin.

Sadly, the fruit is grown in Spain and is only available in December due to its short season.

Charlotte Curtis, M&S’s agronomist, said: ‘We’ve had the mini, the giant, ready-sliced and we’re now launching the holy grail of avocados: stoneless.

‘This amazing fruit has been on our radar for a couple of years and we’re very excited to have finally been able to get hold of some for our customers to try.

‘We know they will be in demand and we’ve only been able to get our hands on a limited amount so make sure you get them while you can.

‘They’re perfect for snacking and lunchboxes as they can be eaten whole but can also be used for a beautiful garnish or in a salad. My top tip is to try them deep fried.’

Earlier this year, The British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons reported a significant rise “serious stab and slash injuries” because of avocado-related accidents.

Simon Eccles, the secretary of the association, says he sees around four patients a week with ‘avocado hand’, some of whom have severed nerves and tendons causing permanent damage and requiring surgery.

He added: “People do not anticipate that the avocados they buy can be very ripe and there is minimal understanding of how to handle them.”
