When it comes to ranking the most arduous of household chores, there’s no argument that vacuuming is usually right up there. It’s loud, it’s a strain on the back, weaving in and around furniture is tedious, and don’t even get us started on the abyss that is under the couch…
Luckily, thanks to the boom in robot vacuums on the market that do all the work for you, gone are the days of laborious vacuuming sessions. And the best robot vacuum is one that can do it all for you.
“Robotic vacuums are a great way to clean your house and an ideal solution for busy households,” says category expert Colin Jones from Appliances Online. “There is no need to plug in your vacuum and walk around your house, these units can be simply left to clean – by the push of a button.”
So, to help you keep your place spick and span without having to lift a finger, we’ve done the research and have rounded up some of the most efficient, affordable and best robot vacuums currently available.

The best robot vacuums and mops for family homes

01
Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni robot
from $2499, Ecovacs
Best for: high-pressure mopping and vacuuming
Move over Wall-E, there’s a new robot on the market, and this is the smartest one yet. The newest addition to the Ecovacs suite of household robots is the Deebot X8 Pro Omni, and boy does it have everything you could ever want in a smart home device.
The main sell for this new robot vacuum is the industry-first mop roller technology. Instead of the two circular mop heads moving in unison to clean your floorboards and tiles, this robot has one large roller, and it’s capable of a lot. With constant pressure onto the ground for intense cleaning, this roller head can self-clean as it trundles along the floor, supplying fresh water to mop the ground. While most robot vacuums and mops will have to return to their cleaning station frequently to clean their mopheads, this one does it while working.
If you’re more into the vacuuming side of things, the Deebot X8 Pro Omni has got that all sorted out too. With 18000 Pa suction power, your carpets will be spick and span. ZeroTangle 2.0 technology means that pesky hairs won’t get tangled around your brush, while efficient path planning ensures no obstacle is too small or quirky to maneuver around.
If hands-off cleaning is all you’ve ever wanted, then this should be at the top of your list of investments.
Key features:
- Industry-first OZMO ROLLER technology combines constant pressure and instant self-washing mopping in one system.
- TruEdge 2.0 Adaptive Edge Cleaning ensures spotless floors right up to the very edges.
- Powerful 18,000Pa suction automatically adjusts to floor type for thorough cleaning from hard floors to thick carpets.
- Efficient path planning selects optimal routes, reducing unnecessary turns and eliminating inefficient movements.
- AIVI 3D 3.0 technology uses Visual-Language Model and deep learning for precise object recognition and rapid contour extraction.
- AI Instant Re-Mop intelligently identifies and targets areas needing deeper cleaning for stubborn dirt and stains.
- YIKO-GPT powered by generative AI understands user intent through text, voice, or conversation to deliver precise, intelligent feedback.

- $2499 from The Good Guys

02
Eufy Robovac S1 Pro robot vacuum
$2288 (usually $2699.95), The Good Guys
Best for: a multi-functional cleaning station
The Eufy Robovac is an exciting smart vacuum for two reasons: its advanced obstacle avoidance and its 10-in-1 UniClean station.
Navigating around toys left out and exposed chords is hard enough for a human, let alone a robot. However, this robot vacuum does it with an ease and elegance that’s almost alien. Infrared imaging and RGB camera technology mean that the Eufy Robovac can mimic human vision, and easily avoid dog beds and chair legs without any hassle.
The 10-in-1 UniClean station is the real investment when it comes to this smart home device. A completely autonomous cleaning companion can be hard to come by because the dust, dirt and waste have to go somewhere. However, auto-emptying, washing and refilling can be done without your help, meaning that all you need to do is take out the rubbish every once in a while.
Key features:
- Always Clean Mop™️ features an innovative dual water reservoir design with a mop spinning at 170 RPM that’s continuously cleaned by a mixture of water and detergent.
- 10-in-1 UniClean™️ Station combines auto emptying, washing, refilling, heated air drying, Eco-Clean Ozone, and more for effortless maintenance.
- Sleek square design enables Precision Corner to Edge Clean, effectively tackling hard-to-reach areas including 90-degree corners.
- Powerful 8,000 Pa suction effortlessly removes deep-seated dust and debris from both hard floors and carpets.
- Exclusive LCD Touch Control with ergonomic optimal height prevents discomfort, while see-through water tanks keep you informed of water levels.
- Advanced obstacle avoidance system combines Active Binocular Infrared Imaging Technology and RGB Camera to mimic human vision.

- $2159.96 from Myer

03
Samsung Bespoke Jet Bot Combo™
from $2499, Samsung Australia
Best for: a more hygienic clean
If cleaning your robot vacuum and mop (after it’s just cleaned your house) is not something you want to add to your to-do list, then the Samsung Bespoke Jet Bot Combo may be your best option. A steam sanitisation feature means your mopping pads and cleaning components are sprayed with high-temperature steam to reduce bacteria. This gives your smart robot a hygienic restart, so it’s ready for the next time it needs to clean that coffee spill or dropped spaghetti sauce.
And if you’d like to know about all of the cleaning up your little helper has done for you, then the SmartThings App will show a detailed cleaning history report. If there were any secret spills around the house while you were out, the robot will clean it, and log it for you to access!
Key features:
- Powerful 6000Pa suction with Samsung’s patented high-efficiency detangle brush effectively captures hair, dirt, and fine dust.
- Jet Bot Combo™ AI features dual rotating mop pads that spin rapidly for deep cleaning of stubborn stains.

- Steam Sanitisation feature sprays high-temperature steam onto mop pads, reducing 99.99% of harmful bacteria for hygienic, odour-free maintenance.
- AI DNN model with camera technology recognizes various objects for intelligent navigation around obstacles.

How to choose the best robot vacuum for your household
However, with so many options on the market now, choosing the best model for your household can seem daunting. Expert Colin Jones notes a few factors to consider before investing in a robot vacuum.
Flooring
“One of the first factors to consider when purchasing a robotic vacuum is what flooring your home has. If your home has tiles and timber flooring, then dirt on your floor will be collected by even the most basic robotic vacuum cleaners, such as Eufy Robovac 11S Slim or Ecovacs Deebot OZMO-T8AIVI.”
Mopping function
“For medium to larger households, customers may want to consider purchasing a robotic vacuum with a few more features, such as sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping capabilities. These dual-functionality units are great for families with a larger space and perhaps young kids.
“There are always spills, so having the mopping functionality removes the pain of bringing out a large mop and bucket. Simply switch on your robotic vacuum, which will detect the wet surface and automatically turn on its mopping capabilities, such as the Roborock S5.”
Auto-mapping
“Another factor to consider is whether your household has any avoidance systems. These avoidances can be a rug, table, or, most commonly, your stairs. Some models have laser auto mapping capabilities that will allow the unit to scan and analyse your home and automatically adjust to any avoidances in the room (however, you can also let the unit know of these avoidances beforehand through the app).
“Many people worry that if they have stairs in their homes, the vacuum will fall down. That will definitely not happen. Robotic vacuums are great at knowing when there is a shift in the flooring, so they will stop right below or above your stairs.”
