How to roll a towel

Natasha Swindler is the brains behind the TikTok account, Effective Space. She shares her method for rolling towels, which will make you want to reorganise your linen cupboard asap.
Benefits of rolling a towel
Saves space: rolled towels take up less space in your linen cupboard, which is great if yours is on the smaller side.
Easy to find: if you’re after a particular towel, it will be easier to find and pull out of your cupboard if your towels are rolled. You also won’t have to worry about towel avalanches.
Your cupboard looks neat and organised: there’s a reason why spas roll their towels, it saves space, and a towel storage cupboard with rolled towels looks more organised.

Step-by-step instructions:
Here’s how to roll your towels. (We’ve done our best to explain the process, but if you’re having trouble mastering the roll, we recommend watching the video at the top of this page.)
Step. 1

Lay your towel flat on a clean surface like a table or countertop and fold your towel in half.
Step. 2

Fold the bottom left corner into the middle of your towel.
Step. 3

Fold the top left corner into the middle so the two corners overlap.
Step. 4

Flip the towel over on its other side. Place the top layer slightly below the bottom layer. There should be a ‘kite’ shape facing you.
Step. 5

Roll your towel tightly from one end to the other, and then tuck the loose end into the roll to secure it. To prevent it from unravelling while in the cupboard.
How to store rolled towels

There are a couple of ways to store rolled towels:
- Stack them. You can stack them on top of each other in your linen cupboard.
- Storage baskets. Alternatively, you can stack your rolled towels vertically in a storage basket.
- Shoe storage. Lastly, if you have the space, rolled towels can be stored in a hanging shoe organiser.
