Knotty but nice!

Get into the macramé mood and dangle those plants!
Better Homes and Gardens

This is the easiest basic method of knotting and a great place to begin.

Step 1 Start with eight 1.5 -2m strands of jute string, fold in half and make a knot at the top or bind with
an extra length of string.

Step 2 Divide into four groups of four strands, then take two strands from two adjacent groups and simply use an overhand knot to tie them together, about 10-15cm below the first knot.

Step 3 Repeat for remaining strands. Now repeat the process about 6 -7cm below the previous knots, separating each four-strand group into a new group.

Step 4 Repeat one more time, about 5cm lower.

Step 5 Knot all ends together at the bottom or bind tightly with an extra length of yarn. Trim into a tassel and insert a tin or jar.

Create charming displays and clear your benches (or bathtub!) at the same time.

Using the basic knotting method described above, make pretty hanging containers for pencils or crayons using coloured yarn and empty tins, or use waterproof twine and a plastic colander for an easy solution for draining the endless supply of bath toys.
