1. How to wrap a gift that makes people say WOW

First up is an easy, yet impressive gift wrap that’s perfect for slotting small gift tags inside. It looks neat, has sharp lines, and will sit pretty under your Christmas tree.

Easy steps to wrap an impressive present

  1. Place your gift in the center of your wrapping paper and fold the top end over to cover about half-way on the gift (book or box) and tape this end down on to the gift.
  2. Fold-in the paper on either side of the gift and firmly crease the triangle edges down on the bottom and top folds.
  3. Fold over the first top triangle paper-fold from one side of your gift and firmly hold down. Apply a small length of double-sided tape to the edge of your first fold and then fold-over the second top triangle paper-fold and these should cross over at the center of the gift.
  4. Apply double-sided tape to the edge of the lower triangle paper-fold on one side of the gift and fold this over and affix to your gift. Repeat this step with the second lower triangle paper-fold.
  5. Lastly, fold in the base of your gift and tape this end down. Cut off any excess paper if there’s too much paper to fold in to create a neat fold!
  6. Insert your gift tag or card into the paper folds to finish off your gift!

2. How to wrap an awkward-shaped gift

This gift wrapping idea is for the presents that are a mission make look nice. Plush toys, bottles, slippers, or blankets are just a few examples, but this nifty trick will make you look like a wrapping wizard in no time.

Easy steps to gift wrap a plush toy

  1. Cut a generous length of your desired gift wrapping paper and turn the paper horizontally/long-ways.
  2. Place your gift in the center of the paper to measure how wide and how much to fold-in the top and bottom edges of your paper into the center of the length of paper.
  3. Use regular tape or double-sided tape to stick the top and bottom folds together, then turn your paper vertically.
  4. Measure the thickness of your gift against the base of your wrapping paper.
  5. Fold up the base of the paper and press firmly to define that edge.
  6. Open up the base of that fold and fold down again to create a square base, then fold this in again and tape down. You’ll have a six-edged shape now at the bottom of your gift-pouch/pocket.
  7. Open the opposite end of your gift pouch and insert your gift into the ’pocket’ and push it down to the bottom of the pouch.
  8. On the open-end of the pouch start to accordion-fold your wrapping paper, back and forth, until you reach the top of your gift in the bag.
  9. Make sure to firmly press the folds down to create sharp edges for a clean and well-defined finished look!
  10. Hold your finger on the middle of your accordion-folds and tape or staple this down in the centre.
  11.  Put a strip of double-sided tape on one side of the accordion fold tape and fold up both sides of the accordion folds to meet at the center and firmly press the double-sided end to the other. You should now have a fan shaped top-end of your gift pouch.

Creating your bow

  1. Cut 3 lengths of ribbon out. The longest is approximately double the length of the second strip, and the 3rd strip is half the length of the second.
  2. Fold over the furthest ends of the longest strip of ribbon to create two loops which form the base of the bow-shape. Fold over the second strip on itself to create a single loop and fix to the first piece of ribbon. Lastly take the last piece of ribbon and fold this over the center of the ribbon loops to tie them altogether. You can staple or tape these together to keep the bow from coming undone.
  3. Affix the bow onto the front side of your gift pouch with an additional piece of double-sided tape. Trim the ends of your bow tails to create a sharp clean decorated finish!
