With so many new toys on the market, it’s hard to keep up. But a classic dollhouse is a firm favourite that will never be out of style.

Instead of buying something straight off the shelves, how about having a go at making your own? That way, you can customise the doll house with extra furnishings and personal touches.
But instead of building one from scratch, you can pick up $39 tree house from Kmart to get you started. Savvy DIYers have already been utilising this nifty hack to turn the simple store-bought wooden toy into something extraordinary and personalised for their kids.
14 piece wooden tree house, $39, Kmart
Straight out of the box, the 14 piece set includes a bed, sofa, felt floor rug, table, bench, mushroom floor lamp, swing, two chairs and four stools.
Mum of one, Jess, is one of many DIYers who gave the Kmart toy the ultimate facelift by adding her own decor and accessories.
The inspiration for the surf shack tree house that Jess made comes from living by the beach in coastal NSW.
The options to jazz up this simple wooden toy are endless. Whether you want to have a specific theme or just add extra furniture is up to you.
Stylist Alicia and mum of two from Perth, WA, gave the toy treehouse a new lick of paint and even made a mini four-poster bed, pizza oven and hanging egg chair from scratch.
Whereas, Danielle, mum to Harper and Arlo, transformed the toy into a Hawaiian-themed holiday house with surfboards, palm trees and mini woven baskets.
Danielle even added wallpaper to the treehouse using decals.
