If you’re as excited about this project as we are, here are the instructions on how to make your own personalised doormat.
You will need:
- Plain doormat
- Cricut smart cutting machine
- CricutSmart Stencil Material
- Basic Tool Kit–that has a weeding tool, scissors, scraper
- Spray paint
- Software needed: Cricut Design Space App (Free)
Step-by-step Instructions:
How to choose and cut out your design
Step 1: Create your own text for the labels / choose a pre-existing design in Cricut Design Space App.
Step 2: Measure your doormat and use the arrows on the design to resize the text to your preferred size.
Step 3: Select ‘Make It’ on the Cricut Design Space App.
Step 4: Pair your Cricut smart cutting machine with the Cricut Design Space app via Bluetooth.
Step 5: Follow the prompts on the Cricut Design Space app and adjust machine settings accordingly (e.g. select ‘smart stencil’ for materials, and select ‘without mat’ for how you will be loading all your materials for this project). Load the Smart Stencil into your Cricut smart cutting machine and follow the prompts.
How to transfer your design
Step 6: Use your weeding tool to remove the pieces of the design that you would like to spray paint from the Smart Stencil, leaving a cut-out of the design you want intact.
Applying the design to your doormat
Step 6: Lay the stencil down over the doormat, ensuring it’s centred and straight. Tape down the vinyl to ensure it doesn’t move and that any surface of the doormat is covered so as not to get spray paint on it.
Paint your doormat
Step 8: Spray paint your design following the instructions on the bottle outside or in a well-ventilated area. Leaving to dry undercover.
Step 9: Once dry remove the Smart Stencil and voila! The vinyl will leave behind your design.
