Luckily, YouTube channel Studio Knit has a solution.

For ribbing, Kristen says typically, the pattern is knit 2, pearl 2 and repeat. However, to create a clean colour change when working with stripes, all you have to do is knit the entire first row, instead of the two by two pattern.

Does just knitting an entire row affect your work?
“It actually does not at all,” says Kristin in the video. “To the naked eye, you cannot tell the difference except for the fact that you have really clean, great looking yarn changes.”
The same applies for seed stitch. Simply knit the first first row of the colour change and say goodbye to dash lines.
