Here’s why you should consider upgrading your washing machine

Washing machines have a come a long way in the last few years, so if you’ve been considering a new machine, now might be the right time to upgrade!

Where to start

One of the first decisions you need to make is whether you want a front load or top load washing machine. The good news is, thanks to recent advances in technology, many of the differences between the two no longer exist.

Gone are the days when you couldn’t re-open the door of your front load washing machine after discovering that rogue sock that found it’s way between the washing machine and laundry tub.

Plus, both can offer very similar washing times and washing programs.

Working harder, but more efficiently

This ‘Pause and Add’ feature is not the only new technological development in washing machines.

For instance, LG offers a handy feature in selected front loaders called TrueSteamTM, a function that introduces steam into the drum, helping to remove dirt, odours and wrinkles. TrueSteamTM works by fluffing up fabric fibres, allowing steam particles to clean on a microscopic level.

So instead of saturating the stain with just one drop of water, 1,600 individual steam particles attack the stain.

There’s something for everyone

With family members requiring different needs – from the active teenager who likes to play sport in muddy conditions to mum, who needs to wash her underwear using a delicate wash cycle – versatility in a washing machine is king!

You want to have the option of being able to wash extremely soiled clothes or delicate wear, without having to think about it too much.

With a variety of wash programs available such as ‘Sports Wear’, ‘Baby Care’, ‘Allergy Care’ and ‘Stain Care’ to name just a few, you simply make your selection and let the machine do the rest of the work for you.

And what about those times when you’ve just realised you need a particular item of clothing that hasn’t been washed yet, but need it ASAP? No problem!

Features such as ‘TurboCleanTM’ on selected front load machines use water spray from a nozzle located at the front of the drum to reduce the number of rinse cycles during washing – assisting in providing much quicker overall wash times… saving up to 30 minutes per wash and reducing water usage by up to 45% on a 3.5kg cotton wash.

Peace of mind

For many households, purchasing a big-ticket item such as a washing machine is a big deal. You want to treat it as a long-term investment.

It’s a household item you use on a regular basis and rely on to deliver top results, which is why the type of motor and warranty is an important feature to consider when upgrading your machine.

Technological enhancements to direct drive motors have not only improved efficiency, but also reliability, in comparison to units that use the old belt and pulley system. Direct drive units also tend to be quieter and produce less vibration, which is something apartment dwellers may be conscious of.

However, great reliability is one thing, but backing it up with a long, 10-year parts warranty on the motor offers that extra peace of mind, so it’s something to consider when shopping around.
