Everyone loves going on holiday, but very few people enjoy the long and cramped plane rides it often takes to get to your chosen destination. If you’re sick of looking tired and feeling worse when you step off the plane, then we have some handy travel hacks for you, straight from professional Jetstar cabin crew members, Melanie and Shelby.
Melanie and Shelby have both been flying with Jetstar for a number of years, and between the two of them they have travelled to more than 32 countries. These ladies know all the top secrets to keeping your skin glowing, hair shining and health thriving whilst travelling.
1. Stop your hair from looking frizzy
“I spend my work life in low humidity – it’s very drying for my skin and hair, but moisturising your hair with a thick conditioner the night before a flight will keep the frizz away! I use a luxe, thick conditioner with a fresh fruity scent,” says Melanie.
2. Drink your vitamins
“Add a Voost vitamin to your water when on long haul flights. Drinking water can be a bit of a bore when flying, however I swear staying hydrated is the key to keeping your skin glowing when flying.” Says Melanie. “Pop in a Voost fizzy vitamin in a bottle of water. I love the citrus flavoured Magnesium (for leg cramps) and the Vitamin B apricot and peach (for energy). The best part is Voost will only cost you $4 and is so easily accessible available at major Australian chemists.”
3. Eat the right breakfast
“Start your travel day off with a high protein smoothie to avoid getting the munchies mid-flight. As we all know, there aren’t a lot of healthy food options at airports, especially when it comes to breakfast,” says Shelby. “I like to have a healthy protein smoothie so that I’m fueled and alert for the busy morning ahead. In my smoothie I put dates (which contain vitamin C and D for my skin), banana (high in potassium and vitamins, for heart health) and almonds (which are a great source of nutrients for brain health). To save time put this in a smoothie keep cup and you can enjoy it on the way to the airport.”
4. Make your skin look and feel fresh
“Clinique Moisture Surge is the key to keeping your skin glowing all flight long,” says Melanie. “My skin just drinks it in. It’s best at night so it can sink in. I’ve also dabbed it over makeup on my cheekbones to give a bit of a highlight.”
5. Overcome jetlag with exercise
“Getting outdoors and exercising will help you win the battle over jetlag. After a long haul flight, nothing looks more inviting than your cozy hotel bed. However, the tip to beating jetlag is to resist the urge to catch up on some sleep and head outside for a long walk.” Says Melanie. “I don’t use the gym as I like to be outside. I keep my runners with me all the time, put some music on and off I go. I’ll walk for 30 minutes then turn around and go back. This is also a great way to explore the new destination and find your brunch spot for the next day.”
