Plan your meals and save money

Create lists of regular pantry items you usually buy, and Frugl will tell you the best retail prices. But that’s not all. Frugl can help you avoid specific allergens in your food, like nuts or dairy. Or, if you want to cut back on sugar, you can set recommended dietary intake levels for products.

Sean Smith, the CEO and Managing Director of Frugl, says, “The app offers shoppers up-to-the-minute pricing and specials across each of the major supermarkets as well as vital dietary, allergen and health information. There’s also a collaborative shopping list function, product scanning and peer-to-peer reviews.

“It is a great way families, in particular, can budget on their weekly shop by using multiple features, such as cutting down food items that contain gluten, if a member of the family was intolerant, or simply categorised into what supermarket has the best deals.”

Frugl Grocery Price Index

This week, Frugl launched its Frugl Grocery Price Index (Frugl GPI), the first-ever comprehensive analysis of grocery prices in Australian supermarkets.

In news that will surprise no one, the latest report reveals grocery prices have increased by 6.75% in the past 12 months.

The annual increase for beef is the highest for all categories at 14.60%. The most significant quarterly increases were seen in fruit & vegetables (7.48%) and pantry categories (6.08%). The essential fruits and vegetables responsible for the rise were green beans, zucchinis, strawberries and broccoli.

Apple lovers can rejoice, though, because apple prices have been falling across most Australian states, with Queensland (-27%) and Tasmania (-35%) seeing the most significant decreases in the last quarter.
