Wheely cool cushion
Big enough to throw on the floor, a denim cushion like this will be the best seat in the house! To make, trace the template onto jeans legs 12 times, then cut out and stitch together to make the cushion top. Finish with a denim-covered button to pull in the centre.
Pockets full o’ goodness
Organisation queens, here’s your new favourite artwork. Maximise your storage with a handy and beautiful wall organiser made from the pockets of multiple pairs of jeans. Your craft supplies, mending kit or stationery essentials will all be right where you need them.
Floor ’em rag rug
A striking chevron design in denim and white completes a casual, contemporary living room. Snip your jeans into strips and a few white shirts too, then use a latch hook and a panel of rug canvas (try Spotlight) to hook the strips into the tufted design. Leave your shoes at the door, this feels amazing underfoot!
Denim beach bag
This tough tote handles a day at the shops or the beach! From a pair of straight-cut jeans, cut off each lower leg then cut along each inside leg seam. With right sides facing, pin the inside seams of each piece together and stitch each seam to make a tube. Trim what was originally the top of the pieces square and stitch across several times to form the bag base. Roll the other raw edge back on itself to make a cuffed bag top and hand-stitch in place. Hand-stitch a pair of leather bag handles or 2 strips of leather at top.
Denim bed spread
Quicker and easier than a quilt, a bedspread, which has no filling, is as simple as cutting denim into squares and stitching them together. Then, surround the sewn ‘centre’ with panels of linen. Hem the sides and your bedroom rhapsody in blue is ready. Want it bigger? Add extra denim squares or make the panels larger to adjust your spread to any bed.
No-sew money bags
Trace a dinner plate onto denim and cut out. To tie the circle into a bag shape, make a series of evenly spaced holes 3cm in from edge of circle then weave 2 lengths of thin cord through holes. Fill bag, pull cords ends and tie in a bow, knotting a contrasting bead on each cord end.
Craft room caddy
With a generous pincushion, a handy waste pocket and plenty of room for your scissors, tapes and other bits, this clever caddy will make a welcome addition to your permanent or temporary sewing table – also known as the dining table!
Denim placemats
put small scraps to use! Thick and insulating, thanks to a wool or cotton quilt batting inside, these easy pot holders need only a handful of denim offcuts – decorate the patchwork top with simple sashiko-style hand-stitching.After making the big projects,
