Gather your supplies
Plastic bottles with caps, 2L or similar (2)
Medium cardboard box
Red, orange and yellow acrylic felt (1 sheet of each colour)
25mm polyester belting (1.2m)
Black buckles (2)
You’ll also need
Utility knife; gaffer tape in silver and black; garden hose (1.2m); metallic silver spray paint; stapler and staples; hot-glue gun and glue sticks
Here’s how
Step 1 Use utility knife to cut a piece of cardboard to suit length and combined width of plastic bottles.
Step 2 Cover cardboard, including edges, with silver tape, then press down to flatten.
Step 3 Centre plastic bottles on cardboard and glue in place using hot-glue gun. Remove bottle caps.
Step 4 To make jet-pack handles, use utility knife to cut two 10cm lengths of garden hose. Set aside remaining 1m length of hose.
Step 5 Wrap black tape around each 10cm hose length to make ‘handles’. Attach a handle to each end of reserved 1m length of hose using black tape.
Step 6 Attach centre point of hose to centre of bottom edge of cardboard, using silver tape.
Step 7 Spray-paint bottles, hose and caps in silver. Allow to dry.
Step 8 To make ignition buttons, attach bottle caps on top of end of each handle using hot-glue gun.
Step 9 Cut four 30cm lengths of belting. Staple 2 to top corners of cardboard and 2 to bottom corners, using 6 staples at each point. To make 1 strap, thread top strap through top hole of buckle. Fold strap back on itself and secure buckle with hot glue. Thread bottom strap through bottom hole of buckle and adjust to suit. Repeat for other strap.
Step 10 Using photocopier, enlarge Flame Diagram (click here) to 375%. Cut out 2 shapes from each felt colour. Layer, then glue together. Glue each flame to inside of each bottle end.
