It’s that time of year where we get together and celebrate with friends and family. Why not make a one-of-a-kind signature ‘scrappy’ bunting to get everyone into the party mood!
Gather your supplies
- Scraps of fabric to make finished bunting flags that measure 12 x 20cm
- Ready made bias binding, length can be as long or short as you need
- Cardboard or acetate
- General sewing supplies, thread, scissors, cutting mat, sewing machine, sewing pins.
Here’s how
Step 1
Press all your fabric and have everything ready to go.
Step 2
Cut a piece of cardboard or acetate to create a bunting flag template. This will help you create perfectly sized improvised pieces. When creating your template take into account a seam allowance of 6mm.
Step 3
Piece fabric together, play around with colour and pattern placement. Create two pieces (one for the front and one for the back). Trim into a rectangle.
Step 4
Mark and trim your curved edges.
Step 5
Choose a front and a back bunting piece and sew them together on the two long sides and the bottom edge, right sides facing.
Clip the bottom curved edge, this will allow the seam to sit flat once it is turned the right way around.
Step 6
Turn the bunting flag the right way around and press.
Step 7
Repeat steps 3 – 6 until you have the required amount of bunting.
Step 8
Pin your bunting to the inside of the bias binding and then sew in place. Give it all a final press and it’s ready to hang!
