The double treble crochet (dtr) is an elongated version of the treble.

Something to remember when working dtr crochet is that because it’s a tall stitch, you will need a lot more yarn, so keep this in mind when choosing a crochet project.

Additionally, the double treble crochet can be trickier to master, especially for beginners.

What is the difference between double treble crochet UK and treble crochet UK?

The double treble crochet stitch (also known as the double triple crochet) is worked in a very similar way to the treble crochet (tr) with one difference.

The main difference between the two stitches is the number of times you wrap the yarn around the hook before making the stitch. For a treble crochet stitch, you wrap the yarn around the hook once before inserting the hook into the stitch you’re working into. Then, you yarn over again and pull the yarn through two loops on the hook twice to complete the stitch.

For a double treble crochet stitch, you wrap the yarn around the hook twice before inserting the hook into the stitch. Then, you yarn over again and pull the yarn through two loops on the hook three times to complete the stitch.

What does double treble crochet UK mean?

What is a dtr in crochet? The terms can confuse beginners when they start learning to crochet. Crochet terms differ depending on whether the designers use US or UK (Australian designers will use UK terms).

In the UK, the double treble crochet stitch is the same as the US triple treble crochet stitch (trtr).

Both stitches involve wrapping the yarn around the hook three times and creating four loops on the hook before completing the stitch.
