It’s amazing how kids’ artwork can pile up at home. While it’s tempting to hang on to every scribble, it’s hard to keep track of stacks of paper and they can take up valuable storage space.
The solution? Embroider your child’s drawings and transform them into keepsake works of art.
It’s easy to make a stitched artwork from your child’s drawings. Here’s how:
1. Choose a drawing and sticky-tape it to a bright window.
2. Now take a piece of fabric and position it over the top of the drawing.
3. Tape the fabric to the window.
4. Use a pencil to trace the drawing on to the fabric.
5. Place the fabric in an embroidery hoop to stitch it. You can always enlarge the drawing on a photocopier for a bigger artwork – just make sure you have an embroidery hoop that fits.
6. Refer to your child’s original drawing for the correct colours and details.
Now you’ve got a treasured keepsake of your child’s creativity – and you made it together!
Singapore-based Inez Tan creates custom-made embroidered art from children’s drawings, which is a clever solution if you’re not keen on embroidering yourself. Here are some of her artworks.
Inez started experimenting with embroidery by creating artworks of her five-year-old daughter Miya’s drawings.
“She likes to doodle cute stick-like figures and I liked the imperfections in her drawings—very jagged and raw and precious,” Inez told Martha Stewart.
