Few things are more annoying than a dark hallway or a wardrobe tucked away in the corner, where you can never quite see what’s inside. If you’re renting, it’s even trickier since you usually can’t add permanent lighting.

Motion sensor lights have become a popular solution because they’re affordable, easy to install and don’t require wiring. Now, one budget-friendly Kmart sensor light is attracting attention online as shoppers look for simple ways to brighten dark corners without major upgrades.

The Kmart sensor light

The buzz began after a social media post praising a Kmart sensor light went viral, with people saying it’s the best $12 they’ve ever spent.

The Motion Sensor LED Magnetic Vertical Lamp has three settings: on, off, and auto. You can even carry it around like a torch. It’s USB rechargeable and sticks to most surfaces, making it perfect for small spaces where regular lighting just doesn’t work.

Shoppers quickly flooded the comments with ideas for how they use the Kmart sensor light around their homes, from pantries and bathrooms to hallways and shared laundry spaces.

It’s easy to see why these Kmart sensor lights are so popular, especially if you’re renting or just want a quick fix. Since you don’t need to wire anything or drill holes, you can brighten up wardrobes, cupboards, stairways, and all those tricky spots in minutes.

They also give off a softer glow at night, so you can find your way around without having to turn on the big, bright lights.

How one BHG editor uses sensor lights at home

Better Homes and Gardens Australia Food Editor Sarah Murphy says she uses sensor lights throughout her home to brighten dark spaces.

“My wardrobe is very dark and nearly impossible to see what’s happening in there as it’s tucked in a corner, so I’ve stuck two of these on the top shelf (with the light facing down) to illuminate my hanging racks,” she says.

She also uses them in other rooms, including the hallway, bathroom and kitchen. “In the kitchen, I’ve placed these in those dark cupboards of doom where things always get lost and forgotten. It gives off just enough light so I can easily identify all the mystery items that look the same in the cupboard darkness.”

Sarah says placement is key for best performance. “You need to make sure the motion sensor is close to where the movement happens,” she says, adding that some versions require AAA batteries, although rechargeable options are also available.

Other Kmart sensor light options

If you can’t find the viral one in stock, Kmart has a few other motion sensor lights to choose from, like rechargeable kits and LED light bars for wardrobes, cupboards, and hallways.
