Have you entered the new year looking to update your interiors? Your sideboards, dining suites, and decor are all starting to wear, but the idea of refreshing the whole house feels like it could cost thousands.

Well, that was until Kmart launched their latest incredible range of furniture – designed to be as comfortable as it is on-trend. And as much as we love our beige design choices, we’re embracing the great value, colourful new launches too.

Choosing a colour scheme to tie your home decor together can be overwhelming. But choosing a soft trending tone is a step in the right direction of creating a space that brings you joy and comfort.

In 2026, Better Homes and Gardens announced Spiced Tangerine as their inaugural Colour of the Year. “It’s a colour that reflects how we want to feel in our homes and in our lives,” says Editor Megan Osborne. “We want to feel vibrant, grounded and creatively alive.” In other words, goodbye beige, hello colour

Kmart’s new range nails the brief. The collection is designed to help you introduce colour into your space without spending a fortune, featuring shades of jade, cool blue, chocolate brown, burgundy and plum.

Jade

Earthy green tones have increasingly been making their way into our design choices. And Jade in particular, is the synergistic balance of serenity, sophistication and elegance. The neutral colour brings the inside out, without the need for a green thumb.

Green-toned plush surfaces and occasional chairs have firmly landed in the widely accepted category. But in 2026, we can see the rise of jade being incorporated into more practical hard furnishings.

Picture being welcomed home with a warming green side table sitting in your hallway. Or try curating a calming, green-toned living room by adding the colour through practical touches, such as a chic glass-front sideboard or opt for more storage by adding a standout chest of drawers.

Cool Blue

It’s the shade that’s cool by name and by nature. Frosty, cool-toned blue can be perfectly paired with trending chrome accents, while being a subtle yet decisive colour choice.

This trending shade is a chic, playful choice for furniture, where you otherwise would have chosen something stark and white. Think chic storage drawers or cabinets, and shelves. Or make a design choice that not only eliminates the unsightly pile of clothes growing over your laundry hamper but also brings a bit of personality to your home.

And because the kids will definitely want to get in on the blue-toned action, pick them up a plush new flip-out sofa.

Plum Noir

If bold, purposeful colour is your design aesthetic, then look no further than plum noir. The decadent tone “mixes notes of burnt burgundy with a swirl of velvet brown,” leaning into the already trending chocolate era and taking it that step further.

If you’re not quite ready to dive headfirst into the bold dark colourway, then start by adding in smaller design details, such as a marble-look side table. Or make a more purposeful choice with plum-toned shelving units, knowing that you can always add additional design elements to bring a different balance back.
