Here’s how

STEP 1 Lay out drop sheet to protect floor from paint splatters. For extra protection, you might like to apply painter’s tape to surfaces you don’t wish to paint, such as neighbouring walls. Stir paint well with stirrer. Using a paintbrush, start by cutting in the Dulux Design Copper Effect paint around the edges of the wall.

STEP 2 Apply a coat of paint with roller, starting in a top corner and working your way diagonally down and across the wall. Use ladder to reach heights, if necessary. Allow paint to dry for 12 hours.

STEP 3 Working in small sections, use roller to apply a second coat and, while the paint is still wet, apply your chosen finish, using either a wide brush or the side of a dry roller sleeve in a varied, overlapping pattern to create a random textured look. You can also use a scrunched muslin rag or a sea sponge with a dabbing action to add further depth and a subtle mottled look.

STEP 4 If you want to create the beautiful patina of aged copper, when the final coat of the paint is touch-dry after 2 hours, apply Dulux Design Copper Patina Effect, wearing gloves and eye protection. Pour the patina solution carefully into plastic container. Apply solution liberally by brush or muslin or use the sea sponge in a random pattern. This will give you a richer, greener look. The patina effect will continue to develop over days and weeks. A second coat can be applied if required, within 12 hours of the final coat of Dulux Copper Effect paint. However, this will only cover areas not covered in the first coat, not deepen the effect that is already there.
