Jessika Elliston may be a powerhouse forward and Player of the Year for the NRLW Gold Coast Titans, but when she’s at home, she’s the adoring owner of Dougie, her loyal red cattle dog.
In true cattle dog form, Dougie is energetic and intelligent, making him the ideal dog match for Jessika and her athletic life. “Dougie is also extremely active,” says Jessika. “He’s the perfect dog to train and run with. I can trust him anywhere we go. He’s great with other dogs and being in new areas.”
A healthy choice
As a top Australian athlete, maintaining a healthy diet and active lifestyle is a priority for Jessika — and she’s just as conscious of Dougie’s nutritional needs. Adopting the role of brand ambassador for Frontier Pets, with their commitment to quality nutrition for pets and sustainable farming practices, was a decision that Jessika says was, “A no brainier.”
When Jessika first brought Dougie into her life, he’d been eating a diet of human food mixed with dog pellets. “It wasn’t a great diet for him,” says Jessika. Frontier Pets food is made from human grade ingredients and freeze-dried, keeping the valuable nutrients and enzymes in the food, making it more similar to a ‘raw’ diet that’s healthier and easier for dogs to digest but takes away the mess and fuss that feeding raw meats and organs requires. “The more I read about Frontier Pets food, the more I knew I wanted to start Dougie on it. And we haven’t looked back. I’ve been feeding Dougie Frontier Pets food for almost a year now.”
Jessika shares values with the Founder of Frontier Pets, Di Scott. Both women model leadership and dedication in their fields, “Di is paving the way forward,” says Jessika. “She’s super passionate about the food she creates and about ending Factory Farming. She lives and breathes the stuff. She genuinely wants the best for all animals, and it shows in the way she talks and the actions she takes. I feel really good that I am supporting such a great organisation. And Dougie, well, he just thinks the food is the best.”
Dougie’s daily diet
Dougie starts the day with some Frontier Pets chicken necks in the morning (his favourite) and then for dinner he will have three scoops of Frontier Pets food with warm water. “It’s just so easy to prepare,” says Jessika. “And he hangs around eagerly waiting for the whole 20 seconds it takes for the dry food to absorb the water. Then he licks the bowl clean!”
Made from free-range meat, Frontier Pets dog food is produced on Australian farmers that practice sustainable agriculture. The meat is freeze-dried, locking in all the nutrients and contains no preservatives. It can easily be stored in the cupboard; Jessika just adds warm water to rehydrate the food when it’s Dougie’s dinner time.
“Frontier Pets food has all the nutrients Dougie needs to live a happy and healthy life,” says Jessika. “I don’t have to muck around preparing a great meal for him, it’s ready in 20 seconds. Frontier Pets food also contains only free-range and organic produce. That means that Dougie (and me) are doing our bit for animal welfare and the environment as well. So it’s a big tick in every box!”
