Three bedtime mistakes keeping you up at night
Sleeping with your phone
While this one is a given, many people can’t shake the habit. It turns out the blue light on our phones suppresses the body’s ability to secrete the sleep hormone melatonin, messing up our circadian rhythm.
Avoiding your phone in the hours before bed is ideal, however, if you have an iPhone, you could try switching to “night shift” mode which adjusts he screen to give off a warmer, less blue light.
Plants in the bedroom
According to Feng Shui, a Chinese system for harmonising people’s energy, there’s one room in your house where you should hold off on the greenery: the bedroom
“Since plants are really active and represent growth, they may not be great for such a passive, restful, quiet room,” feng shui expert Dana Claudat told Mind Body Green.
That said, if you already have plants in your bedroom and are sleeping like a baby, it’s probably safe to say they aren’t doing you any harm.
Another bedroom layout mistake that could be disturbing your slumber is the placement of the bed. It turns out placing your bed in the middle of your room is vital for creating balance. This means ensuring you have equal space on either side of your bed and never pushing it up against a wall.
Not letting your body cool down properly
The easiest way to do this without changing the temperature of the room is to sleep naked.
Researchers at the University of Amsterdam conducted a study, which found lowering your skin temperature increased the depth of sleep, as well as reducing how many times you wake up in the night.
