Although we are only a few days into the first month of 2019, hot cross buns have already hit shelves at a supermarket near you.
While many of us may complain that Easter is still months away, Woolworths has one very good reason to stock their shelves with the sticky delicious buns early: Ice cream.
Woolworths has released a limited edition hot cross bun flavoured ice cream. The Ice cream is has juicy raisins and a smooth hot cross bun flavour ripple, and it retails for the very pocket-friendly price of $4.70 for one litre.
As it turns out, hot cross buns are a pretty popular treat. Woolworths revealed that although the baked good is traditionally associated with Easter, in January 2017 alone the supermarket sold more than 10 million hot cross buns, and the snack is growing in popularity with a 10 per cent growth in sales each year.
Woolworths Head Baker, Ben Thompson said; “It’s clear that many of our customers love getting their hands on hot cross buns as soon as they can and our team of expert bakers right around the country are excited to be beginning their annual baking of fresh, hot and tasty hot cross buns to meet the January demand.
“There’s no doubt of their ever-growing popularity and we’re taking it up a notch this year with the introduction of our new Woolworths Hot Cross Bun Flavoured Ice Cream. It’s perfect for summer, perfect for sharing and is a perfect accompaniment when enjoyed with any of our traditional hot cross buns.”
