Dust off your broom stick and don your best dress robes, because the Great Wizard’s Ball is happening in Canberra, and you would be knuts to miss it.
Hidden away in Canberra is a delightful little establishment by the name of Quizzic Alley. Hailed as being one of the greatest purveyors of wizarding regalia and accoutrements outside of Diagon Alley, Quizzic Alley opened in September 2018 and stocks the largest range of Harry Potter merchandise in Australia. Quizzic Alley has gone on to host potions classes for young witches and wizards, birthday parties and countless other community enriching events, all in the spirit of Harry Potter.
Owned and operated by husband and wife duo, Paralympic athlete Michael Milton (or as he prefers – Nearly Legless Mick!) and Professor Penelope Presto, Quizzic Alley often runs free events in-store to promote not-for-profit organisations, such as the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and The Smith Family. However, this August the masterminds behind the Quizzic Alley wizarding store are taking their charity efforts to the next level and hosting The Great Wizard’s Ball in Canberra.
A magical experience like no other, the ball includes an immersive 3-course dining experience, live entertainment, a costume parade and countless themed photo ops. The Abbey at Gold Creek, with its gothic organ, is the perfect setting for the ball, which will be held on Saturday, August 31st from 7pm. The Great Wizard’s Ball is the first large-scale event hosted by Quizzic Alley, and the team promises to deliver a fun and exciting experience for everyone who attends.
“If you’ve been to Quizzic Alley, you will know what to expect of The Great Wizard’s Ball. I solemnly swear there will be loads of really cool magical activities and acts, and the venue is amazing!” says store owner Nearly Legless Mick.
Early Owl tickets are on sale now until August 17th for $165, and all profits from the event will be donated to the Smith Family children’s literacy program. Last-minute tickets will be $210, however there is a discount when booking tables of 8 or more magical creatures. And just in case you have some kiddies who are desperate to join in the fun, there will be a kid’s afternoon tea from 3pm to 5pm on the same day.
