With just a few simple materials, you can create a chic, boho pair of earrings that look like they came from a boutique, but you’ll be able to say that you made with your own two hands. Here’s how to make a few variations of macrame earrings that are so simple you will not only want to make them for yourself but give them as gifts to friends as well.
How to make macrame earrings
Gather your supplies
- Twist cotton macramé cord in various colours
- 20mm wooden ring beads
- 20mm shepherd earring hooks
- Small jump rings
You’ll also need
- Clipboard
- Stiff-bristle comb
- Scissors
- Round nose pliers

Here’s how
Step 1
Cut cord into ten 20cm lengths. Cut 4 lengths in one colour, 4 lengths in a second colour and 2 lengths in a third colour.
Step 2
Fold cord in single colour in half, feed loop through and over ring.
Step 3
Bring cord ends behind wooden ring and up through cord loop.
Step 4
Pull cord ends taut to tighten lark’s head knot.
Step 5
Repeat Steps 2 to 4 to add remaining cords to wooden ring. Then repeat to create a second ring.
Step 6
Hold wooden rings in place on clipboard. Brush out cords using a comb.
Step 7
Trim cord ends to even lengths using scissors.
Step 8
Attach jump rings to wooden rings as a link for earring hooks using pliers.
