Gather your supplies
- Assorted picture frames
- Chalk finish spray paint
- Timber wax
- 1200mm floating picture shelves with fasteners
You’ll also need
- Fine-grit sandpaper
- Lint-free cloths
- Face mask
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Stud finder
- Pencil
- Spirit level
- Screwdriver
Here’s how
Step 1
Remove backing boards, pictures and glass from picture frames.
Step 2
Clean the picture frames of any dirt or grime, then give them a light sand using a fine-grit sandpaper.
Step 3
Wipe all sanding dust off the frames.
Step 4
Working in a well-ventilated area and wearing a face mask, apply 2 coats of spray paint to frames. Hold can 30cm from frames and, using a side-to-side motion, aim for light, even coverage. Leave to dry after each coat.
Step 5
Use a dry cloth to apply timber wax to painted picture frames. Buff with another cloth to a soft sheen.
Step 6
Use isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth to clean glass. Return glass, pictures and backing boards to frames.
Step 7
Use a stud finder to find stud locations on wall and mark position of floating shelf screw holes. Attach floating shelves to wall using supplied screws, checking for level.
Step 8
Arrange painted picture frames on shelves.
