Buying a major household item like a fridge is a big deal that, for many of us, can mean a deep dive into product reviews and brand-by-brand comparisons. A fridge is something we use every day, after all – and when you eventually need a new one, you want to know that it’s the best fridge for your household, both in terms of the features and reliability.

But the range of fridge brands, models and even changes in manufacturing can make shopping for a new fridge challenging. So to help you find one, we have rounded up some of the most reputable and top-rated fridge brands in Australia, from LG to Samsung.

Better Homes and Garden’s recommends:

After years of research and tracking the range of fridges and fridge brands in Australia, these models from LG, Mitsubishi Electric, Haier, Fisher & Paykel and Samsung are our top picks for a new fridge.

What is the best fridge brand in Australia?

There isn’t one best fridge brand in Australia, because every household has different needs and each brand offers different styles, features and customisations. So we have researched key factors including designs, features, reliability, quality and reputation to come up with a working list of 10 of the best brands available in Australia. We’ve also factored in availability and how easy they are to buy, because a top fridge brand is only as good as its range. Here’s more on our methodology.

Here’s our pick of the best fridge brands in Australia – based on their features, customer reviews, prices – and popular fridge models.

  1. LG: Best fridge for smart features – 642L French door fridge with InstaView, $4799 $3799 at LG

5 best refrigerator brands in Australia

As someone who remembers all too well the extremes I went to when I bought my last fridge (including travelling hours to get the one I wanted), I want to put that experience to good use. So I’ve also included tips and expert insights on what to look for when buying a fridge, so you can choose the right brand and model for your home.

LG

The LG 642L French door fridge with InstaView in black stainless finish, is on sale for $3799 (usually $4799) at LG and $4438 at Appliances Online. It also won a Better Homes & Gardens People’s Choice Appliance Award in 2025. (Credit: LG)

LG has a top-rated range of fridge models, from classic designs to more sophisticated French door and plumbed ice models. In fact, the LG 642L French door fridge with InstaView won the 2025 Better Homes and Gardens People’s Choice Appliance Award for ‘Smart Tech’. And a lot of the feedback people shared with us focused on how stylish, spacious and good it is at keeping food fresh. Australian consumer advocacy group Choice also includes LG among top fridge brands – it was awarded equal second for Best Fridge Brand in 2024, and equal first in similar Choice reports for 2023 and 2022.

Some LG fridges stand out for innovative features, such as SurroundCooling to keep your food fresher for longer, and InstaView technology that lets you see what’s inside with a simple knock on the glass. One customer even described this popular feature as a “game changer” in a five star review of the LG 642L French door fridge with InstaView on Appliances Online.

There are also LG fridges with thoughtful configurations for easier storage, and high energy efficiency ratings. For example, the LG 530L Slim French door fridge is one of its most efficient French Door models, with a five star energy rating (out of 10) designed to save 19 per cent on annual energy consumption. And according to the government’s Energy Rating Calculator, it’s one of the top 10 most energy efficient fridges with a volume between 526-570L.

“I’ve actually got an older model LG fridge that’s still running smoothly after 11 years – and three big home moves. It’s also held up well during several major blackouts in the past couple of years, so I’m hoping it stays with us for a long, long time.”

Amy Bradney-George, Better Homes & Gardens shopping writer and deals editor

While you may find some fridges with similar or slightly higher energy efficiency ratings, anything above five stars is typically considered efficient for a fridge.

This includes bottom mount, French door, side-by-side and quad door options, as well as a range of fridges that can be customised to your cabinetry for a seamless kitchen design.

Customer reviews for Fisher & Paykel fridges often mention the design features as a highlight. For example, with the 515L Series 5 bottom mount fridge, one customer who rated it 5 stars at The Good Guys shared: “some great features include a door alarm (not a very obnoxious one, so it’s good as a reminder only), fading light when opening, specific temperature controls, and some accelerated cooling options which I haven’t tried.”

Another customer who gave a 5-star review for the Fisher & Paykel 494L bottom mount refrigerator on Bing Lee shared: “This is my second Fisher & Paykel fridge. I liked the first one so much I couldn’t go past Fisher & Paykel when purchasing a new one. I am very happy with it. Inside space is very well arranged that things are easy to be seen and to reach for. I love the freezer being on the bottom as it saves me from bending to much when getting things from the refrigerator. Layout of freezer is really good too. I love the middle narrow shelf for small leftover bits.”

The Mitsubishi Electric 700 litre multi-drawer fridge in black is one of the brand's best-rated models in the MR WX range.
The top-rated Mitsubishi Electric 700L multi drawer frost free fridge, RRP $4399, available at Bing Lee.

It was actually rated number one in the 2025 Choice Best Fridge Brand report for the fifth year in a row. And the multi drawer MR-WX series won a 2026 award in the Best Appliances – Fridges category on ProductReview.com.au.

But only some models score highly in analysis and with customers. Mitsubishi fridges can also be more expensive than some other brands, ranging from around $1500 to over $4700.

If budget isn’t a factor, one popular model is the Mitsubishi Electric 700L multi door fridge (part of the MR-WX series), which has 5 stars from 90% of customers who rated it via Bazaarvoice Authentic Reviews on Appliances Online (where it’s available to order in black, silver and white).

“My sister bought this fridge and she showed me all of the features. I was impressed then and more so since we bought one for ourselves,” one customer who left a 5 star review shared. “It’s such a well considered and thought out design. I should know – I’ve been in the building industry for over 50 years. I’m an accredited Architect working part time as I transition to retirement.”

Another customer on Bing Lee said: “I’ve had this fridge for several years. Best fridge I’ve ever had. So well designed- its drawers hold a lot more than a conventional fridge and makes it easy to organise. Easy to clean too.”

There’s also a 470L model in the MR-WX series that’s highly rated and currently $3299 at Bing Lee.

As another example, the popular Westinghouse 496 Twist & Serve Icemaker French Door Fridge is designed to fit perfectly into an 1800mm fridge cavity (the standard height for fridge spaces in Australia, according to Appliances Online) and has an internal icemaker with no plumbing required – features that could make it easier to install.

“The fridge is quite spacious inside, but compact for height and width and fits perfectly in the nook we had at home,” one customer shared in a detailed 5-star review on Bing Lee, where it has a 4.7-star average from over 50 customers. “First fridge was a Westinghouse too and only upgraded as are a big family now and needed more than a 2 person fridge.”

“This fridge was chosen for it’s price and recognisable brand name. It is much more than that. Quality doors. Quiet running. Glass inside is thin, but they all are. Would buy again, but probably won’t have to,” another customer shared in a 5-star review on Betta.

The Westinghouse 609L quad door fridge in matte black is also popular choice for larger households and has a high 4.8-star average from over 180 customers at both Bing Lee and Appliances Online, with one customer reviewing it as having the “best versatility and practicality for a family of four”, and another saying “Westinghouse is also reliable just replaced my 15 year old fridge with another Westinghouse.”

Samsung has an impressive range of top mount, bottom mount, French door and side-by-side fridges to keep your food and drinks fresh. It also made it into the Choice list of Best Fridge Brands for 2024, ranking in fourth place. It’s also been developing connectivity and smart features that are actually helpful, like lists of what’s in your fridge and use-by date record-keeping for Samsung’s AI Family Hub fridges.

As an example of what customers think, we looked at a best-selling Samsung 648L French door fridge, which had a combined total of over 500 reviews across The Good Guys, Appliances Online and Samsung in 2026. And more than 400 of these were for a full 5 stars, including one customer at The Good Guys who said “Samsung leads the way” among fridge brands.

“This fridge freezer is amazing. I’ve always been a fan of the French-door style and this is a classy version, lots of shelf and basket room. Easy to keep clean and we love the ice-making facility. Having a jug of water on hand means I drink more water than I usually would and of course, it fills up automatically when placed back in the fridge.”

While the most popular Samsung fridges tend to be larger and high tech, some of the smaller models also offer great value for money. The 393L silver top mount fridge with ice maker, for example, stands out for its streamlined design, removable internal ice maker (to save space in the freezer in winter) and relatively low price of $899. One customer summed it up by saying: “This refrigerator has exceeded our expectations in both performance and reliability!”

To give you an example of what customers think of Electrolux fridges, the Electrolux 425L UltimateTaste 500 bottom mount refrigerator has a 4.9-star average from over 45 customer ratings at Appliances Online, with one customer summing it up in a 5-star review as: “Great size for 4 person household. Kogan offers a quality yet affordable range of refrigerators for all kinds of homes – from French door to mini. For example, the Kogan 529L bottom mount fridge has a 4.65 star average rating from over 30 customers – and the best-selling Kogan 464L French door fridge with water dispenser has 4.5 stars from over 155 ratings.

Bosch

The BOSCH Series 4 605L French Door Fridge (KFN96VPEAA) is one of the brand's top-rated models.
The Bosch Series 4 605L French Door Fridge, available from $1900 at Appliances Online, is a top-rated model with an energy rating of 4.5 out of 6.

Bosch is a brand known for German heritage and engineering, offering premium quality and a focus on innovative features across its appliance range – including fridges. They often boast advanced technologies like VitaFresh drawers for extended produce freshness, NoFrost technology to prevent ice build-up and high energy efficiency ratings. And Bosch is one of the few brands to offer integrated fridge models (where you can get cabinetry to finish the door to match the rest of your kitchen).

While this can be more expensive, my analysis has found customer satisfaction tends to be high. For example, the majority of customers who have reviewed the Bosch Series 6 254L Fully Integrated Bottom Mount Fridge on Appliances Online and Winnings rated it 5-stars when I checked in March 2026, even with pricing from $3134 (which may also be because it’s one of the few Bosch fridges made in Germany).

“Great fridge, integrates seamlessly into the kitchen. We have 2 next to each other as 1 wouldn’t be big enough for a large place/family. Love that it’s not too deep so it doesn’t stick any further than rest of [appliances]. Very sleek on the inside (only wish the side door shelves would be adjustable height… very easy to reverse doors which is great,” one customer shared in a review.

As another example, the Bosch Series 4 605L French Door Fridge has 5-star reviews from over 60 customers across Appliances Online and The Good Guys.

“If you’re looking for a fridge that just works as a fridge without expensive bells and whistles that are hard to maintain, this is ideal. It’s got plenty of space in both the fridge and freezer section and hasn’t given us any trouble since we bought it. No water dispensers, ice makers, or app integration: it just makes things nice and cold,” one honest customer shared in a 5-star review on The Good Guys

While not as well-known as some of the brands on this list, CHiQ is worth comparing if you want a smaller fridge or have a tight budget, with many models under $1500. With Australian headquarters in Melbourne, this Chinese-owned brand produces contemporary top mount, side-by-side and bar fridges to suit the needs of everyday households.

As an example, one customer who gave a five star rating of the CHiQ 225L top mounted fridge (pictured here) said: “The CHIQ fridge is perfect for our small rental studio. We needed something with a freezer and a decent-sized fridge, but not too wide. This one fit the bill to a T, and delivery was very quick from Appliances Online.”

Is Kelvinator a good brand for a fridge?

Kelvinator was previously one of the top 10 best fridge brands in this guide, with simple and straightforward fridges and air conditioners for the Australian climate.

But, while been making fridges in Australia for over 80 years and one of the best-known fridge brands, I’ve noticed very limited availability of new Kelvinator fridges since August 2025. One reason may be that Kelvinator is owned by Swedish brand Electrolux, which also owns Westinghouse and has its own range of fridges. Whatever the reasons, it’s worth being aware that Kelvinator fridges are harder to come by than other brands (although I have seen a fair few second-hand models on marketplaces and the like).

Plus, Kelvinator fridges tend to be less energy efficient than other models. When I checked the energy rating website, most Kelvinator fridges had a 3.5-star energy rating and the ones that had 4-stars were not highly rated by customers. So, while Kelvinator is still considered a good fridge brand by some, it’s limited availability and lack of newer models mean it’s not really one of the best at the moment.

Are Hisense fridges good?

Hisense is a well-known fridge brand and widely available, which means it often has competitive prices and features. Some customers are big fans of the brand, with one calling their side-by-side Hisense fridge the “best family fridge”. But details on Productreview.com.au shows that it can be hit-and-miss in terms of what customers think, with reviews ranging from above 4 stars to below 2 stars. So it’s worth considering the particular model, features and other details like the warranty (which is actually a good idea regardless of the brand).

What to look for when buying a fridge

Choosing the best fridge brand is one thing, but getting a fridge that best suits your home can be another. What we found when we researched the best fridge brands is that ratings can vary a lot depending on the model and style of fridge. So, while it can be helpful to focus on one or two different brands, here are some other important factors to consider that will help you find the right fridge for your home.

Size and capacity

Measure the height, width and depth of the area where you plan to put your new fridge and check these against the requirements of fridge models to make sure they will fit.

Adam Duggan, the category expert from Appliances Online told Better Homes & Gardens that this process is “one of the key things to ensure your fridge has a longer lifespan.”

“If you haven’t allowed enough space, the warm air released out of the fridge’s vents is going to struggle to circulate appropriately. If your fridge is sitting in a cavity that is essentially being heated, it’s going to hinder the performance of the fridge.”

Also consider the storage capacity you need based on your household’s size and appetite. “Every shelf should allow air to circulate through with ease. Constricting airflow by cramming things into available spaces might be a short-term convenience, but restricted airflow is another cause of motors wearing out,” Adam said.

Energy efficiency

Energy-efficient fridges can help save on electricity bills and are more environmentally-friendly. So it’s ideal to go with a model that has an energy rating of five or above. Also consider the size of your fridge, as a smaller fridge with five stars will still use less energy than a larger one with the same rating, according to the government’s Energy Rating website.

What is the most energy efficient fridge in Australia?

The Hisense 417L Bottom Mount Refrigerator is the most energy efficient fridge in Australia as of 21 January 2026 (and has been since I started checking last year). It has an 8-star energy rating and an estimated 10-year running cost of $911.73 according to the Australian government’s Energy Rating Calculator.

This closely beats the Haier 433L Bottom Mount Refrigerator, which was the first model in Australia to achieve an 8-star energy rating (in 2024) and has an estimated 10-year running cost of $923.65.

While the updated energy ratings are now out of a possible 10 stars, currently the highest on the market is 8 stars for these two models and another Hisense (a 503L Bottom Mount Fridge). But it’s likely more fridges and brands will achieve these ratings, or potentially higher, in the future.

Configuration and layout

Common options for fridge configurations include top mount, bottom mount, side-by-side and French door models. Choose the one that best suits your needs and consider the layout of shelves, drawers and compartments inside the fridge.

“Bottom mount and top mount units are still the most popular options, as they allow most people to avoid having to do any renovation work to increase the size of their cavities to fit a larger fridge than what was standard when their kitchen was built,” Adam said. He also notes that larger fridges, including French Door or side-by-side models “would be ideal for a family of five that does a weekly grocery shop.”

“Accessibility and ease of access is a key reason why we choose the fridges we do,” he said.

“A bottom mount refrigerator is more appropriate for somebody with mobility or accessibility issues, as the things you would regularly be removing from the fridge are up within eyesight and at arms length, rather than having to bend down. Side-by-side and multi-door fridges are also an alternative for people wanting a larger style fridge, but with a preference for doors rather than external drawers. If you’re cooking a lot more frozen foods, the larger capacity freezer you find in those two options will be of benefit.”

Features and functions

Consider the features and functions that are important to you. Some popular ones include adjustable shelves, humidity-controlled crisper drawers, ice makers, water dispensers, door-in-door access, temperature control and smart connectivity.

Price and budget

Determine your budget and explore the best-value fridges within that range. Just keep in mind, however, that compromising too much on quality may lead to future repair or replacement costs. That’s where considering the fridge brand can help you find the best choice for your home.

“The world’s leading brands tend to be the most popular due to their quality and functionality, including the likes of Westinghouse, LG, Fisher & Paykel and Haier,” Appliances Online category expert Adam Duggan said.

Maintenance

Consider the ease of cleaning and maintaining your fridge. Features such as spill-proof shelves, removable drawers and accessible condenser coils can make the upkeep much more convenient.

“A lot of issues with fridges start out relatively minor,” Adam told Better Homes & Gardens.

“The door seal and motor are probably going to be the most noticeable, as you’ll likely notice the fridge is failing to effectively cool like it did in the past. Refrigerator seals should be replaced every five to ten years. But if you notice an issue with the seal (it’s become unstuck in a section, is lifting or fraying in parts), you should try to get it replaced as soon as possible. If cold air is escaping from the fridge, the motor is going to be working overtime and under strain in an attempt to compensate.”

How we determine the best fridge brands in Australia

The Better Homes & Gardens team have developed a custom methodology to assess different fridge brands in Australia. To determine the best fridge brands, we consider these key criteria

  • Design and features across the range of fridges available
  • Energy efficiency (via the government’s Energy Rating Calculator)
  • Price ranges and availability of fridges from each brand (not just with partners, but in general)
  • Warranty and reliability details (from the brand, retailers, reviews, industry publications etc)
  • Reviews and consumer insights, including our own hands-on experiences when possible
  • Industry recognition and awards

We also consider other details, such as share-of-market, manufacturing location/s and established brand reputations. We determine the order these fridge brands based on an overall assessment of these criteria and the information available at the time.
