SAFETY TIPS: Please ensure that any loose clothing, hair, lanyards, etc. are secured and cannot make contact with tools while in use. Wait until all tools are completely stopped before resting the tool on the bench. Ensure all personal safety equipment is used suitable to the application. If you are unsure of how to use any of the tools listed ask someone who has the knowledge before attempting to use the product. Please also refer to the product manual for usage instructions and tips on individual products.
Set Up
1 Cut your timber to size if necessary. We’re starting with a 300mm x 300mm square of Beech Laminated Worktop Panel timber.
2 Mark an ‘x’ in one corner, about 35mm from the corner, to indicate where the hole will be for drilling.
3 Clamp your timber to a bench ensuring you are only going to drill into the board.Insert a 19mm or 20mm spade bit into drill & tighten chuck, ensuring the bit doesn’t come loose. Line the centre point of spade bit with centre of the marked ‘x’.
4 Holding drill vertically, drill spade bit through timber.
TIP: When using spade bits it’s best to use low pressure and high speed.
TIP: For a clean result, drill part of the way through until the point just starts to show on bottom edge. Flip workpiece, re-clamp to workbench and drill spade bit through the hole from this side.
Bevelled edge
You can achieve a neat bevelled edge by using your circular saw on a 45° bevel angle and a ripping fence or straight piece of timber as a cutting guide. We recommend doing some practise runs on a spare piece of timber.
5 With timber clamped off, cut along all outer edges to achieve a bevelled finish on outer sides of the board. Ensure base plate of circular saw is flat & level on workpiece.
6 Repeat process to rotate workpiece, re-clamp and cut remaining edges.
TIP: For the best result, start circular saw with blade slightly away from the edge of your workpiece, then move through timber when blade is spinning full speed. Move slowly to ensure a clean cut.
Finishing Touches
7 Using a sander, work in circular motions along all flat edges of the chopping board. Keep the sanding pad flat on surface and sandpaper first edges for a smooth finish. Start with a medium grit followed by a fine grit sandpaper.
8 Wipe down timber board to remove any loose material & finish with a food-grade oil & let dry, re-coat as many times as you like to seal the timber.
