How to replace a leaking garden tap
Gather your supplies
- Slip joint plier
- Adjustable wrench
- Plumber’s tape
- 20mm easy 1/2 turn male garden tap
Here’s how
Step 1
Turn off water at the mains.
Step 2
Position slip joint plier over ground pipe hex nipple; tighten until firm. Position adjustable wrench over tap hex nipple; tighten until firm and slowly turn tap anticlockwise to remove.
Step 3
Tightly wrap plumber’s tape clockwise around male end of new tap at least 5 times.
Step 4
Position tap into the ground pipe hex nipple and begin to hand-tighten clockwise until tight.
Step 5
Follow Step 2 and slowly turn clockwise until tap is vertical and tight.
Step 6
Turn mains on, test that tap turns on and off and is not leaking. If tap is still leaking, tighten a little more or remove and apply more plumber’s tape, and repeat Steps 4 and 5, then test again.
