MIRROR-EFFECT CANDLE HOLDERS

Gather your supplies

  • Rubber gloves
  • Newspaper
  • Paper plates (optional)
  • Glass votives or vases, to suit
  • Spray bottle filled with water
  • Rust-Oleum Specialty Mirror Effect Spray Paint (available at Bunnings)
  • Wax or battery-powered tealights, to suit

Here’s how

STEP 1 Fill your kitchen sink with water and regular dishwashing detergent. Thoroughly wash glass vessels, ensuring you remove any labels or sticky patches where labels once existed. Set glass vessels aside to dry thoroughly.

STEP 2 Put on rubber gloves. Cover your work surface with multiple layers of newspaper. If using paper plates, spread out one for each glass votive or vase on top of newspaper.

STEP 3 Using spray bottle filled with water, spray the inside of first glass votive or vase.

STEP 4 While still wet, lightly spray inside of glass with mirror-effect spray paint. Carefully holding onto the outside of the glass, gently swirl the paint around the inside until the entire interior is coated

STEP 5 Place the glass votive or vase upside-down on a paper plate, or directly onto newspaper. Let dry.

STEP 6 To build up the antique mirror effect, repeat Steps 3–5 up to five more times, or until satisfied with the look. The layers of running paint will create a lovely, aged patina.

STEP 7 Repeat Steps 3–6 to paint remaining selection of glass votives and vases. Once finished, wrap them together with wax or battery-powered tealights for the one you love!
