Stylin’ blinds: Set your style with blinds

Choose your style to find your blind!

While design and colour are a big part of defining what style a room is, it’s the details that can make all the difference. One of those details is interior blinds and curtains. There are lots of different types and picking the right one can really enhance your chosen style.

Modern

Most blind types can be used to fit in with the clean, crisp lines and colour palette of the modern style. Roller blinds are the least “busy” so fit in perfectly, although the geometric lines of venetian blinds also work well. Around sliding or bi-fold doors, use vertical blinds. They’re a bit more practical as they don’t have to be fully open to use the door. When they are opened right up, they stack to one side so they’re less obtrusive. If you like the idea of modern but aren’t going the whole way, choose Roman blinds as their fabric adds texture and warmth to a room.

Industrial

Picture a renovated warehouse and you have the industrial look nailed down. The emphasis of this style isn’t so much on colour and appearance of a room, but the materials used inside it. Aluminium venetian blinds are perfect, especially if you go for a set in a metallic finish that looks quite raw. Timber is another popular material choice.

Traditional

Texture and warmth are what this style is all about. Fabric curtains in deep colours give you this feeling. Choose a colour that contrasts with the rest of the room to make it even cosier. Timber venetians are another option and are good for living areas because you can better control the balance between letting in light and gaining privacy.

Hamptons and coastal

The Hamptons style is the latest ”in thing”. Its hallmark is the use of whites and neutrals to create a light and airy coastal feel. Wood is a popular material, usually painted white to fit in with the scheme. That’s why white timber venetian blinds are the perfect choice. Pick blinds with a wide blade as this better suits the style and imitates more expensive plantation shutters. Another option, especially around doors, is sheer curtains. You get a soft, diffused light through the fabric while the sight of them billowing in an afternoon breeze brings the style to life. Pair them with heavier curtains for nighttime privacy.
