Track your journey with a bus, tram and train style destination scroll. Here, Joh listed all the places they’ve lived and had them printed and mounted (for similar services, check out tramscrolls.com.au). You could also make your own by printing out letters, tracing them onto clear book covering, then sticking each one onto a primed, white-painted canvas. Paint over the letters using a matt black spray paint product, stipple paint brush or mini roller. Let dry, then carefully remove letters with the corner of a sharp blade.
Love Joh and Todd’s handiwork? Pinch this idea by screwing horizontal slats of salvaged timber to your wall studs or to vertical battens attached to masonry walls. Joh’s tip? Paint the wall and battens, if using, with black paint first so the cracks, gaps and holes aren’t highlighted with white space.
Replicate the family tree that Joh made with wall decals – you can find similar tree and leaf designs online at thewallstickercompany.com.au – then frame and hang photos of each family member in an arrangement that suits. You can easily add more photos – a beautiful way of displaying your gorgeous growing family!
Knock up similar side tables to Joh’s inventive additions by sourcing vintage metal containers. Find similar-sized pieces with a farmyard patina, then cut a series of rectangular-shaped openings using a metal cutter, filing down sharp edges.
