This company makes kids’ furniture from recycled plastic

And they have a distributor in Melbourne.

Many products that are made for children, such as furniture, toys and other paraphernalia, are all made from plastic. Considering the time, effort and resources that have been invested into distributing the message of sustainability, and the importance of being eco-friendly, across Australia, it seems like children’s products is an arm of the manufacturing industry that should be re-evaluating how they can make their products more sustainable.

Belgian company ecoBirdy has done just that, and have developed a range of furniture and homewares for tiny tots all made from recycled plastic toys.

The ecoBirdy website reports that 80 per cent of plastic toys end up in landfill, waste incinerator or oceans and 90 per cent of children’s toys are made from plastic and have just a six month lifespan. Another scary stat ecoBirdy shares is that 500 bottle caps have the same value as one plastic toy.

ecoBirdy also received a prestigious Good Design Award® in the Product Design category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.⠀

The Good Design Awards Jury said:

“ecoBirdy is simply a wonderful design story with enormous potential for positive impact on our lives and planet. This is such an inspiring design project that will help educate our future generations about sustainable design practice and the potential it has to influence the prosperity of our world.
