This fast-growing houseplant can survive in low light, and looks particularly good trailing from ledges and shelves. All you need to do is water it whenever the soil feels dry.

Maidenhair ferns

Most maidenhair ferns do exceptionally well in low light, and look particularly good in terrariums. They have delicate, frilly leaves that add texture and interest to any space. Ensure the soil is always kept moist.

Begonias

There are a wide variety of begonias in different leaf colours and shapes. Make a beeline for a Rex Begonia which does very well in low light conditions. Ensure it completely dries out between soaking.

If you love the look of terrariums, consider a moss terrarium. They are easy to look after and don’t require a lot of light. Just make sure you spritz it with water regularly so it never dries out.
