Australian supermarket Easter bunny taste test: The $2.79 bunny that scored better than Lindt

This is what to buy for all the grandkids.

Buying Easter bunnies for your kids, grandkids, or friends is a tricky decision in 2026. The options are endless, and the prices have skyrocketed since last Easter (due to inflation and short supply of cocoa). Whether you love an Easter bunny, an Easter bilby (shout out Darrell Lea!), or just need a good bit of chocolate to get through the holidays, price is such an important factor.

This year, it’s all about best value, and we’ve gone on a mission to find the absolute best value Easter bunny in Australia. And the winner? It’s tasty, it’s very on theme and, above all, it’s the best price possible.

We sourced 15 different Easter bunnies from various Australian and supermarket brands, including:

  • Cadbury
  • Lindt
  • Darrell Lea
  • ALDI
  • IKEA
  • Koko Black
  • Ferrero Rocher

We taste-tested all of the bunnies first, in the same huge taste-test of all 65 Easter chocolates. The whole office joined in on the taste test, with the Better Homes and Gardens team, including senior food editor Sarah Murphy, at the forefront of the judging. We gave each bunny a score out of 10 and provided anonymous feedback on how we felt about each one.

After the taste test, we took the tasting scores and compared them to their price per 100g, creating an overall ‘best value’ score based on taste and price.

Which Australian Easter bunny is the best?

The overall winner is ALDI Dairy Fine Milk Chocolate Bunny with an 8.3/10. The tasters described this one as ‘surprisingly delicious’. Although it didn’t get the highest tasting score (8/10), the low price is what made it the best value. With a $2.79 price tag, it’s easily the most affordable bunny in the warren.

The bunny itself is hollow and akin to the same chocolate quality as Cadbury, according to tasters. They loved the classic taste and cute bunny head-tilt on the wrapping. In terms of price, this bunny stood way ahead of the rest, with the low, low price of $2.79. The only point of contention tasters had was that Dairy Fine sounded too similar to ‘dairy free’, and could be confusing to those with allergies or dietary requirements.

In second place was the Lindt GOLD Hazelnut Bunny with an overall best value score of 7.2/10, with points deducted for the higher price per 100g. Lindt took 3 of the top spots in the top 5, with ALDI Dairy Fine and Cadbury in there too.

The best value Easter bunny

01

ALDI Dairy Fine Milk Chocolate Bunny

8.3 /10

Taste-test score: 8/10

ALDI Dairy Fine Milk Chocolate had a tasty, ‘classic’ chocolate flavour, and was generally popular among the tasting crowd. However, it was the price of $2.79 per 100g that pushed it into the top spot. Nothing will beat an Easter choccie that’s that low-priced! This one also comes in blue, if pink isn’t your jam.

02

Lindt GOLD Hazelnut Easter Bunny

7.2 /10

Taste-test score: 8.6/10

The Lindt GOLD Hazelnut Easter Bunny scored top spot when it came to flavour. The rich, decadent Belgian chocolate, along with a nutty hazelnut crunch, proved to be the winner for many. Tasters love the short squat shape of this bunny, saying the thickness of the chocolate is what draws them in for a nibble.

The price isn’t too much of a bad tradeoff, with a solid RRP of $12. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to score a couple on sale!

Price: $12

Available at: Woolworths, Coles, Big W

03

Lindt GOLD Dark Chocolate Easter Bunny

7 /10

Taste-test score: 8.2/10

Dark chocolate was a surprising dark horse in this taste test. Everyone loved the bitter aftertaste that followed the indulgent flavours that Lindt is known for.

Again, in terms of price, it is in the double digits. But, if you’re willing to pay the big bucks, this bunny sure makes it worth your while. Dark chocolate lovers, this is the Easter bunny for you!

Price: $12

04

Cadbury Micro Mini Eggs Easter bunny

7/10

Taste-test score: 6.7/10

Cadbury Mini Eggs have a cult following in many countries around the world – so much so that Cadbury decided to branch out the egg into bunny form. This bunny has all the classic traits of a regular Cadbury bunny, but with added ‘micro’ pieces of Mini Eggs throughout. Many loved the chocolate (it’s Cadbury, how could you not?), but we were disappointed by the lack of Mini Egg flavour. Some tasters were surprised at the fact that the Easter bunny wasn’t filled with Mini Eggs as well (ala Humpty Dumpty).

Still, the price is good bargain, especially since the weight of this bunny is a whopping 160g.

Price: $10

Available at: Woolworths, Coles, Big W

05

Lindt GOLD Milk Chocolate Easter bunny

6.9/10

Taste-test score: 8/10

Finally, to round out the top 5 is another Lindt GOLD, this time the traditional choice. Although dark and hazelnut beat this bunny quite easily, a milk chocolate Lindt will never be passed on. If it’s on the table or in your Easter basket, you’ll be happy as a clam.

Don’t forget, if you head into their stores or shop directly through the Lindt website, you can also personalise any flavour of bunny for just $2.50 extra.

How we taste-tested 15 Easter bunnies

We conducted an open-packaging taste test of all the Easter chocolates, keeping the packaging next to the product. Within this Easter taste test, there was a corner set aside for bunnies to be tasted. Each person who tasted an Easter bunny had to give them a rating out of ten. Ratings were based on taste and texture, and then compared against the price per 100g.

Who were the taste-testers?

We had lots of bunnies to get through, so sharing was definitely required for this taste test! The entire BHG team, including senior food editor, Sarah Murphy, and wider office were involved in judging.
