With a trendy and considered range of furniture and homewares, as well as quirky ads, Koala has become a staple for many households in Australia. And for many people, it started with a Koala mattress – their designs have regularly featured in our mattress guides, and have been among the most popular mattress-in-a-box options since they launched.
Their designs are a key part of this, with the Koala considering everything from restless partners to hot sleepers.
“You’d be surprised how many people are just accepting that they will be woken up by their partner tossing and turning at night, disrupting their own sleep,” Beth Playford, Koala’s Product Manager (Mattress) tells me.
“One of our earliest ads that went viral was the “wineglass test” which showcased our Zero Disturbance tech, and this still holds true today. All of our mattresses are designed to absorb that motion, rather than transferring it to your side of the bed, meaning you can snooze uninterrupted.”
Beth Playford, Koala Product Manager (Mattress)
Then there’s the unique Kloudcell foam, which balances support and softness – along with three to seven other layers, depending on the particular mattress.

“PolarBands are highly thermally conductive bands that we position around the parts of the mattress where heat tends to accumulate. They are designed to dissipate and release that heat out away from your body, helping you to sleep cooler,” Beth explains.
“As someone who struggles to get quality sleep during the warmer months, PolarBands have been a gamechanger for my own sleep!”

A stand-out feature for this mattress is the choice between a flippable firmness layer or a “half-and-half” one designed so that one side of the bed is firm and one is medium-firm, which is handy if you and your partner have different preferences. What else to know about Koala mattresses
- Trial period: Koala has a 120 day trial period, which gives you time to get used to sleeping on the mattress. If you decide it’s not right, you can return it for a full refund – and the return is free if you’re in a metro area (in regional areas, you’ll pay return shipping).
- Warranties: Koala has a 10-year warranty for mattresses, which covers replacement or repair of a product that has a manufacturing or material defect. But it’s worth noting the warranty doesn’t apply if the issue is from general wear and tear or if it’s a natural characteristic of the products or materials used. For example, minor pilling, puddling or “normal softening of the product”. The mattress also has to be used as intended and recommended by Koala for the warranty to apply.
- Free delivery: All Koala mattresses have free standard delivery in Australia. You can choose the delivery date and time from a calendar at the checkout. Room Service, Premium and Saturday morning deliveries have separate costs, so keep that in mind.
- Koala showroom: If you’re in Sydney and want to lie on a Koala mattress before you order one, you can visit the Moore Park Showroom.
