Ingredients

Method

1.

Put self-raising flour, buttermilk, eggs, sugar, butter and vanilla in a large bowl. Whisk until smooth. Put 2 tablespoons batter aside in a small bowl and mix with plain flour to thicken, then tint with red food colouring. Mix cocoa powder and milk to make a paste. Transfer each mix to a piping bag, fitted with a small nozzle.

2.

Grease 12cm individual oancake pans with oil, then set over medium-low heat. Pipe red and cocoa paste to make emoji faces, then spoon batter over the top. Cook gently until just set, then flip and cook for 2 minutes more. Serve with jam, syrup and cream.

Cook’s Tip: If you can’t find individual size pans then just use a small pancake pan and make these in batches. Individual size are available at kitchen stores, department stores and some supermarkets.
