Velocity Frequent Flyer and Aussie blogger The Organised Housewife, aka Katrina Springer, have joined forces to give you some great tips on the basics of earning Velocity Points so you can use them for travel, upgrades, products or gift vouchers, faster.
No plane ticket required
First things first, you don’t have to be a frequent flyer to be a frequent flyer program member. (That said, you might fly more frequently once you amass some Points!) Members can earn Velocity Frequent Flyer Points both in the air and on the ground, with even minor purchases counting towards your Points total.
Work Velocity Points into your everyday purchases
Think about your daily routine and how you can earn more Points just by going about your business. You might not think twice about where you grab some milk on the way home from work, but it can make a big difference if you shop with Velocity’s program partners. Visit the site for the full list of Velocity program partners.
Make your credit card work for you
Katrina, founder of The Organised Housewife and self-confessed “former points neglector” has blogged about how she changed her credit card and her spending so that she can earn more Velocity Points to take her family to Disneyland for her 40th birthday. Here’s how she did it:
“My tip is to pay for your everyday expenses using your credit card, either one you already have that earns bank reward points which you can transfer to Velocity or one of Velocity’s credit cards” says Katrina. “By doing this, you can earn Velocity Points on pretty much everything. Plus, when you transact with a Velocity partner and pay with your credit card you can earn Points twice. I use my credit card more than cash as I find it more convenient, but we have strict rules to stick to our budget and pay it off each month.”
If you’re thinking about this option, Velocity currently has a promotion running until 31 July 2017 for their American Express Velocity Platinum Card, which comes with 100,000 Velocity Points! Just make sure you read all the terms and conditions to see all offer details and ensure it’s the right card for you, find out more about this offer here.
Link your flybuys
flybuys lets you collect points with a number of everyday retailers you probably already visit – think of all those missed points! Everyday spending at places like Coles or Kmart can really add up, so remember to link your Velocity membership to your flybuys household to transfer points (a conversion rate and annual transfer cap applies) and shop away. Before you know it, you’ll boost your Velocity Points balance quickly and you’ll be redeeming those hard-earned Points for flights or upgrades.
Pool your Points
The family that pools together earns faster together! Family Pooling allows you to group your family members’ Velocity Points and Status Credits into one account. This means that you can earn Points faster so you can redeem them sooner or for greater rewards and reach a new level of membership with even more benefits. Find out how here.
