1. Mardi Gras Festival: Ecstatica!

Described as an act of euphoric rebellion, the 48th Annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival is full of colour, fun and most of all, celebration. Ecstatica is the theme for this year, a ‘full-body act of queer defiance’. Explore theatre events, educational talks, dance parties, and of course, the brillant Mardi Gras parade on March 1.

2. Sydney Streets

When: Saturdays, from 7 March – 28 March

Where: Redfern St, Stanley St and Harris St

Bring your friends and family to celebrate community with closed street parties on some of the busiest streets in Sydney. With food pop-ups, live music, entertainers and kids activities galore, the whole family will enjoy visiting a new neighbourhood for the day.

3. Lakemba Nights

When: 19 February – 15 March

Where: Lakemba

Haldon Street in Lakemba will once again turn into a bazaar filled with stalls, delicious smells and tasty treats to try. Originally centred around the Festival of Eid, as a way for the Muslim community to break their fast together, this market has quickly grown. Try traditional treats of knafeh, kulfi and fresh sugarcane juice!
