15 genius hotel room hacks
- You can use any card to keep the hotel room power on
- Worried about the germs on the TV remote? Wrap it in the clear, plastic shower cap from the toiletries stash in the bathroom
- IF you need an extra phone charger, just ask at reception if they’ve found an iPhone/Samsung/Google charger. They’ll have heaps in lost property.
- If the hotel room has an adjustable ironing board, use it as a desk. You’ll be able to adjust the height to suit whatever chair is available – meaning you won’t get back and neck pain when working!
- Use a coat hanger with pant clips to close the gap in the curtains.
- Use a car ventilator air freshener clip on the AC/heater unit in the room to freshen it up.
- Attach your keys to your phone charger so you don’t forget either when you leave.
- No fridge? Keep your drinks or food cool by filling the bathroom sink with ice, alternatively, line the bathroom trash can with a fresh bag and fill that with ice.
- Hate how hard the butter is at the buffet breakfast? Place it on top of the toaster while toasting your bread so it softens up a little.
- Require a humidifier? Soak a towel in hot water, wring it out, then place it over the luggage rack and position t in front of the air vent, AC or heater.
- Baby-proof a hotel room with masking tape.
- Use the plastic shower caps to cover dirty shoes in your luggage.
- Forgot a speaker for your phone? Pop it into a coffee mug to amplify the noise.
- Pack an over-the-door hook. It’s the perfect place to put bags, towels and other paraphernalia in a tiny hotel room.
- Can’t find a USB port to charge your device, and forgot your charger? Check the TV – it will usually have a USB port that you can use for this purpose.
5 of the best cruise ship hacks
- Pack masking tape – if the ship hits rough seas cupboard doors and drawers may swing open. Tape can secure them.
- Pack an over-the-door organiser. Most cabins have very little room for hanging and organising – so a door organiser will help immensely!
- Bring a power board so multiple devices can be plugged into one outlet
- If you’re worried about getting seasick, book a lower deck cabin in the middle of the ship.
- Pack balloons. There usually isn’t much room inside a cabin on a cruise ship to hang clothes or swim suits to dry. But you can blow up a balloon to drop clothes over to dry, and pop the balloon in the bathroom or a corner of the cabin!
