If you’re a frequent shopper at IKEA then you’d be familiar with their iconic FRAKTA carrier bag. It’s the unmissable, bright blue bag that’s similar to that of Mary Poppins – seemingly never ending thanks to its ginormous size.
Chances are, you’ve probably got one under your pantry holding all your shopping bags, just waiting for its chance to come out and shine at your next IKEA trip. Well, IKEA are offering a free service for 4 days to make your newest bag purchase even more personalised.

For the first time in Australia, customers can add custom initials onto their very own bag. But it’s only happening for four days as part of IKEA’s Open House from the 18th to the 20th September.
What is IKEA Open House?
IKEA Open House is a 4-day celebration taking place in every store across Australia from the 18th – 21st September. Customers will find affordable storage and organisation solutions, inspiration and exclusive offers. Plus, there will be heaps of family activities to join in.
Selected stores will have interactive workshops, such as BESTA storage workshops where customers will learn how to customise storage solutions for different spaces around the home.
There will be food tastings including the iconic IKEA meatballs, plant-based balls and cinnamon buns. Paint and Sip sessions will also take place with plenty of giveaways, treasure hunts and colouring competitions.

Why are they personalising the FRAKTA?
It’s an exciting, fun addition to the celebrations. They know Aussie’s love the FRAKTA. IKEA shared they have sold more than 680,000 FRAKTA bags across Australia in the last financial year alone. Crazy, right? And roughly 1 in 3 Australians said they own one.
Ainslie Woodham, Head of Home Furnishing & Retail Design, IKEA Australia & New Zealand, said: “FRAKTA has become much more than a shopping bag. It’s low in price, incredibly durable and long-lasting and used in countless ways throughout people’s lives, which is why so many customers all over the world have such a love for it. It feels right to kick off our focus on storage and organisation with the one product that is the original and ultimate storage hero in the IKEA range – the humble FRAKTA.”
“Our Store & Organise research shows Australians want to make room for the things they love. Personalising FRAKTA is a fun way to celebrate that, while giving customers the chance to put their own stamp on a much-loved IKEA product.”

The history of the IKEA shopping bag
The FRAKTA was designer over 30 years ago but since then, it has transformed into a cultural icon that’s been embraced across fashion, design and everyday life.
FRAKTA means ‘to freight’ in Swedish and the bag is crafted from high-quality materials meaning it can be reused for years.
When they launched the bag personalisation in London, there were long ques of customers waiting for their chance to turn the cult storage staple into a limited-edition keepsake.
“After seeing the excitement it generated in London, we’re thrilled to bring the experience to every IKEA store in Australia and New Zealand for the first time,” Ainslie said. “We’re inviting everyone to visit their local IKEA store for IKEA Open House weekend in September, join in the fun and have the chance to get your hands on this limited-edition item too.”
How to get your FRAKTA bag personalised
It’s simple, all you need to do is go in store, purchase a FRAKTA bag at the usual price of $1.75 then head over to the personalisation station. There, customers can choose up to 2 initials which will be heat-pressed onto their bag in the iconic IKEA yellow felt. Personalisation of the bag is free, with each customer also receiving an authentication certificate commemorating their limited edition personalised FRAKTA.
To ensure everyone gets a chance to grab one of the 900 persoanlised bags available per store, per day, personalisation is limited to one bag per customer.
