The next time your plant looks like it’s at death’s door, try speaking kindly to it. A compliment could save its life.
Ikea in the Middle East recently set out to investigate the social impact of bullying with a live experiment at a school using two indoor plants.
One plant was fed with students’ kind remarks and encouragement while the other plant was fed with insults and hateful words. Both plants received the same amount of water, sunlight and fertiliser.
After 30 days, the plant that was fed compliments continued to thrive while the bullied plant had started to turn brown and its leaves drooped.
The social experiment raised awareness for Anti-Bullying Day in the Middle East.
