The days when Bruce and Sheila were common Australian names are long gone. These days, you are way more likely to meet a Jack or a Chloe in Australia.
According to the Baby Names Australia Report 2024 from McCrindle Research, the most popular baby names in Australia are Oliver for a boy and Isla for a girl. In fact, Oliver has been the top boy’s name in Australia for 11 years, while Isla has been in the top five for many years.
The report also notes that celebrities and pop culture obviously have an influence on the names of “Generation Alpha” babies, with examples including Ariana (Grande), Margot (Robbie) and Louis (Prince William and Cate’s son).
“The [British] Royal Family, along with historical television shows like The Crown and Bridgerton, continue to climb in popularity, inspiring regal names,” the report says.
“In fact, many names from Bridgerton have seen a steady climb since the first season of the show.”
This includes Penelope, Theo, George and Eloise. So, if you’re looking for inspiration or are just curious about trends in Australian names, here are the top 100 baby girls and boys names in 2024.
