Meet Jessica Smith, a self-confessed “bedspread-a-holic” and Kmart addict who enjoys creating high-end looks in her bedroom.

“Who doesn’t like walking into their own room and having it look like a show home every day,” Jessica told Better Homes and Gardens.

“I pride myself on how my bedroom looks and for some reason just by changing the sheets and freshening up my bedroom makes me happy. Feeling sad? Change the sheets.”

The majority of Jessica’s bed linen comes from Kmart and Target, although she admits that “every once in a while I might walk into a high end bedding retail but always find myself going back to my favourites.”

“They are constantly releasing new items that are in tune with ‘what’s in’,” she explains.

“The best thing is the price tag. I can afford to try them all and change my styling to what suits my mood because I’m not going to break the bank.”

When it comes to styling her bedroom, Jessica says she pretends she is showing her home “to the world”.

“Selling homes is what I do for a living so helping my clients stage their homes has a big influence on how I present my own home,” she explains.

“There is no such thing as too many cushions in my books (some disagree). I just love them and adding that throw or fluffy rug just brings it all together.”

For aspiring bedspread-a-holics, Jessica’s top tips include:

  • Look for inspiration and find what you like.
  • Mix and match your colours and you will soon discover what will go together.
  • Don’t be afraid to style it the way you want to.

“Create your own style and begin experimenting and you will never second guess yourself again,” she adds.
