Former superstar footballer David Beckham is living out our gardening, fresh egg, farmer dreams (hey, blokes can be a trad wife, too) and he isn’t here to mess around. He’s even tipped to be creating a Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2026.
In recent years, David has used social media to offer us glimpses into his garden at his sprawling Cotswalds estate. In his posts, he shares everything from how to prepare his crops for the UK winter frost, his most bizarre harvests, funny moments with his chicken, and a new plum passion project.
But most of all, the gorgeous garden he’s created is a place where he and his wife, Victoria Beckham, love to spend time together.
A garden for the Beckhams to unwind
Recently, on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper, Victoria Beckham shared that their garden is where they love to spend time together.
“We both love being at home. We work so much and travel so much that, you know, our perfect night in is a glass of wine in the vegetable patch.”
Alex clarified, “Wait, you sit in the vegetable patch?”
“David? Yeah, he’s created this incredible vegetable patch in our country house, and it is incredible,” Victoria answered. “And if it’s nice weather, we just sit out there, have a glass of wine, and yeah, just laugh. He’s funny. David Beckham’s very funny, by the way.”
Let’s dive into farmer Beckham’s country life and all the fun mischief they’ve gotten up to.
Introducing… David Beckjam
Watch out, Meghan Markle. David Beckham is coming for your As Ever jams, equipped with randomly sized jars and an old school labelling machine.
In the most recent video of David Beckham’s farm life, he proudly shows his followers what he got up to on his long weekend, with a little banter from his wife, Victoria Beckham.
“We’ve had a weekend of cooking,” Victoria said from behind the camera.
“We?” David asked.
“Well, you have, I’ve been watching,” she corrected. “So, you’ve been making lots of jam with the plums. Show us what you have made? He’s proud, he’s proud.”
David shows the camera a jar, labelled with the most basic label, ‘David Beckjam.’ Inside is his plum jam.

David called it “original”, we call it iconic. When Victoria asked how many plum jams he made, he began taking jars out of a bag, some large and some tiny.
“He’s quite the entrepreneur,” Victoria says.
Is this a hint at a potential jam line hitting the markets soon? Or is he just enjoying the finer things in life?
Time will tell for this one.

David Beckham’s ‘disappointing’ carrot harvest
It’s harvest time in the Beckham garden! David and “Lady Beckham” first tackled the carrot patch, and it was not quite what they were expecting.
“I’ve been waiting for a while for this. A carrot. I’m excited about this. I really hope it’s good,” David says.
With Victoria cheering him on from behind the camera, David pulls out a carrot, and it doesn’t quite look like the ones you find in the grocery store.
“Oh my gosh, he’s like a magic man,” Victoria laughed. “That’s so disappointing… that’s embarrassing.”
The carrot was split into three. “What happened there?” David asked.

We took to the comments section to see an influx of laughter, excitement and support from his fans.
“Happened to mine last year,” said one.
“Literally BEGGING for constant Beckham family gardening content. Please and thanks,” said another.
Meanwhile, theories emerged about what caused the carrot to split. “You’re doing great. This happens with carrots when they are too crowded. In the future, try thinning them out a bit more as they grow; that way, they will be less likely to bump into each other and split/fork like this.”
Is it safe to eat carrots that have split?
Split carrots are generally safe to eat as long as they’re not dark, slimy or mouldy.
Why do carrots split in the ground?
Carrots split or crack in the ground due to inconsistent watering or hard soil. Carrots need constant moisture, so if the soil dries out then receives heavy rain or watering, the roots can quickly absorb a large amount of water, causing them to swell and potentially split. Hard, compact soil, particularly with clay, can prevent the carrot from growing straight down. This forces the root to fork or split as it tries to navigate obstacles.
How to stop carrots from splitting?
To stop carrots from splitting, provide consistent watering, especially during dry periods. Ensure the soil is loose and well-draining and mulch to help retain soil moisture and moderate temperatures. Some carrot varieties are more prone to splitting than others.
David Beckham’s second garden tour
Before the carrot debacle, Beckham took us on his second garden tour. It starts with, of course, greeting his chickens. As one commenter adequately puts it, those chickens are the “only girls to run away from David Beckham.”
The chicken pen and his garden are bordered with a classic white picket fence. There are perfectly even rows of fruits and vegies and, in the background, a gorgeous glasshouse that we can only assume is home to more plants.
“Winter is coming! With the help of lovely Carly, who helps me with some of the vegies, we have mulched all the beds ready for the frost. We’ve actually done them with a mushroom mulch which we’ve had bags of. My back is in bits, but it looks good,” he says to the camera.

“We have a few little leeks coming through there,” he says, showing the camera. “Some onions sprouting there, some red onions, and my favourite – a bit of garlic.”
He moves to his purple kale plant which has grown to significant heights.
“I’m quite impressed – the kale is still going strong and I’m very happy with it. The other thing I have to show you is this,” he slowly reveals a sweet potato to the camera. But it isn’t any ordinary sweet potato.
“This is my only sweet potato that came through and it’s… interesting. Look at that… really? This is my only sweet potato and it’s shaped like… that,” he laughs, holding a weird and oddly circular sweet potato to the camera.
Watch David Beckham’s first garden tour:
Beckham’s first garden tour began in his chicken pen, where he is greeted by his clucking chickens and hens. “They’re all eating… Did he just say good morning? Very hungry this morning.”
Beckham then proceeds to show us the first part of his vegie patch: spring onions in a clean, bordered garden bed.
“Pretty impressive, look at this – our spring onions. The spring onions are going well,” he says.
Beckham previously shared a clip of harvesting spring onions for the first time when, out of nowhere, one of his chickens hilariously walked into the frame and started nipping at the garden bed as he harvested. We must admit, it was quite funny to see, especially when another one walked into shot and proceeded to eat his fresh harvest.

Next on his garden tour, we see Beckham’s plum trees.
“We’ve got all these amazing wildflowers that I’ve planted. More plum trees, more flowers that we [also] have in the house… a nice little cobweb,” he says.
In the caption of his garden tour reel, he adds, “@victoriabeckham you’re welcome [to] the flowers for the house.”
David Beckham planting wildflowers in the vegie patch for his wife, Victoria, is a literal couples goal.
Continuing with the garden tour, he proceeds to show off his impressively tall kale plants. “Tell you what I’m doing really well over here? Kale, look at that. Kale is doing very well. A bit of red cabbage. Red cabbage is doing great, not ready, but doing great and we have more cabbage. So, not bad.”

Kale has been growing in popularity over the years, and one of our top easy and healthy recipes is kale chips. But speaking of chips, Beckham’s seemingly favourite part of the garden (and ours) is the next section.
So. Many. Potatoes!
“We have a lot of potatoes and today I am going to make some crisps because I’m a savoury person, not sweet. So here we have potatoes… potatoes… potatoes… and more room for potatoes. So I think we have a few potatoes,” he laughs.
Like Beckham, Aussies love carb-y delicious potatoes. Hot chips, normal chips (crisps), baked, mashed, roasted, on a pie, and always with tomato sauce (controversial). They’re versatile, always yummy and we’re craving potato recipes just thinking about it. So we understand why he’s got an entire section of his vegie patch dedicated to growing potatoes.
But despite the former footballer admitting he doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth, there’s still a generous section filled with berry plants.
“This is something that we’re working on. This is the berry area, and, as you can see sage and olive, over there are trying to get in. Trying to get into my chicken and hen,” he laughs, pointing at an olive and sage tree still waiting to be potted.
That brings his epic garden tour to an end, but our keen eyes noticed a gorgeous glass greenhouse beside the fence. To our disappointment, he hasn’t revealed what’s inside… yet. There’s still hope.
“I can hear my East End mates going, ‘He has changed’… My content used to be motorbikes and camping, now it’s kale, honey and flowers for the house. Might have to get back on the road soon,” he writes in his caption.
Beckham has had several passions, from football to outdoor adventures and now gardening.

While his garden is grand and likely expensive, it doesn’t need to cost a lot of money to create a beautiful vegie patch in your own backyard.
