Bunnings’ new $12.50 Blind Box Mini Bear keychains are selling out across Australia. But there’s one bear everyone’s hunting for: the ultra-rare “secret” bear from the five-piece collection.

Social media has been flooded with speculation about what the mysterious fifth bear could be, with Aussies joking it should be holding a Bunnings sausage sizzle with tongs.

But Bunnings has now confirmed what the elusive collectable actually is.

What is the secret Bunnings bear?

“We’ve been so overwhelmed with the love for our new Blind Box Mini Bears,” says Justine Mills, Bunnings General Manager Marketing.

The collection includes five mini bears: High-Vis Bear, Team Member Bear, Straw Hat Bear, Rain Poncho Bear, and the rare Secret Bear.

Bunnings has now confirmed the ultra-rare secret bear is the Bunnings Trade Bear – a light brown teddy wearing the iconic green Bunnings hoodie and backwards cap.

The secret bear is “a nod to one of our most popular merchandise items,” Mills says, referring to the beloved Bunnings Trade hoodie.

Sydney content creator Annie Nguyen was among the first to unbox the rare Trade Bear, sharing her excitement on TikTok.

The confusion about Billie

There’s been some confusion online about which bear is which. Billie, the bear representing women in trade apprenticeships, is Bunnings’ separate annual bear release for 2025. Not the blind box secret bear.

“Each year, our Bunnings Bears celebrate the trades and the people who make our communities thrive. This year’s bear is Billie, representing women in trade apprenticeships,” Mills says.

The Mini Bears are a separate collection inspired by this beloved annual tradition, but are distinct from the full-sized annual bears.

What people wanted the secret bear to be

Before Bunnings confirmed the design, social media users were sharing hilarious theories about what should be inside the mystery box:

“The rare bear has to be holding a sausage in bread and tongs,” joked one person on Instagram.

Another added: “I wish one of them were holding a sausage sizzle.”

While the Trade Bear might not be wielding a snag, it’s arguably even more iconic. The green Bunnings Trade hoodie has become the unofficial uniform for tradies nationwide.

The hunt is on

The bears launched on Monday, December 15, with Bunnings imposing a five-per-customer limit due to “super” limited stock.

Despite the purchase restrictions, demand remains high with shoppers racing to stores to complete their collections.

Mills says the mystery box concept is about more than just collectables.

“We think the mystery box concept brings people together through collecting and trading, creating a sense of community and fun,” she says. “It also reflects what we love to do at Bunnings: offer a unique experience for our customers and team, and bring a little extra joy to their shop.”

Where to find them

For customers who’ve missed out so far, Mills says to keep an eye out in-store for replenished stock.

The Mini Bear keychains retail for $12.50 each and can be attached to keys or bags.
